new air feed

Car  182 Full Fat
Hi guys, decided the other week to remove the acoustic valve as I wanted more air flow onto my open (heat soaked) K&N 57i. I recently ordered some air tubing from ven air (thanks andy905)

I did a quick experiment after with a hair dryer to see how much air was getting there and I must say I was pleasantly suprised. :D Car feels slighty better in the low down pull in second gear around 2000rpm, where it previously suffered heat soak. It still egts very hot under there, but Im sure it has improved. MAy look at heat shielding next!

How easy / hard is it to remove the acoustic valve , is it easy to put back if needed ? Do you notice any difference when you hit 5k revs , do you still get the kick ??

Looks good Nick. Are you going to fit an end piece to the CAF, and mount it in the grill? Nice blue shiny one would look wicked in there. :D

hey mr nelson rather than the heat shield i got a mrk 172 air box and fitted my filter in to that . and it still gives the raw sound but a little deeper . and it only cost 25.00 from a scrappy . can get you a pic if needed . and cause it's got two inlets you can put the air feed straight to it . :D

^^ please can I see :)

was thinking about putting the end piece in the grill, but spraying it black. Does the standard CAF pipe fit from the grill up to the viper? Im sure mine looks too small and wont reach.

i got a an extended one from demon tweeks think it was about 21.00 a meter . but is also wider .

standard viper caf doesn't reach.

Isn't that similar to just unplugging the feed from the std airbox and leaving feed pointing to the hole ?

Fair doo's Tim that's a good idea. Bet K&N wish they'd made a housing for it like that to keep it nice and enclosed.

The kick is still there, so I can only assume that this acoustice valve is for road regulations, and the IIRC the first 172 never had this vavle. By removing it I was able to fit the big 85mm tubing rather than the skinny 58mm standard stuff. Also think car sounds slighty louder!

Not as loud with standard air box, plus with the removal of the acoustic valve it has meant more air gets to the filter sooner, rather than standard where the valve opens up fully after higher revs are reached via a vacuum

Looking good - are you going to the Tonbridge meet this Thursday?
Yes mate, I met Steve yesterday as you know, and said I would be up for it this Thursday. Will have to show you what i've done. Many thanks again for your help in the acoustic valve removal ;)

Nick Hill told me it's to do with emissions and noise mainly...

I suspected this was all it was for. Think how many people get de-cats, they aren't worried about emissions!! :dead:

What size ducting have you used iam going to use 70mm willl that fit in my 182

I went for the 85mm mate. Get as large as you can. Speak to andy905 on here for some £19.00 delivered. The 85mm JUST fits behind the headlamp ballast on Full fat 182's, and the 1metre length is just long enough. :)

yes i understand tht bit, but whats the point over a panel filter with uprated feeds??!!!

gt gaz, some people already have the IK, and dont want to buy a panel filter, they have about the same air flow through them, and mounting the IK is no real hardship, it took me a day to set mine up in my megane air box, with a custom ally heatshield and several feeds to the box

Exactly, and its all experimental!;)
