I left my car in the work's car park before travelling offshore and just as I parked up I got STOP & Battery lights on dash, burning smell in the cabin and smoke from the alternator.
I won't able to test current or check voltages unil I get back in 2 weeks, bus seems pretty conclusive to me.
So I probably need a new alternator and have the following quotes:
Used one from breakers (31k) £60
Refurb from renault £ 179 +VAT
New from Renault £404 +VAT
So do I risk a used one? are the refub ones any good? or do I have to swallow £500 to get something reliable?
I'm not really keen on pattern parts for this, want a Valeo OE part.
Leftfield option is to get a new regulator pack and fix the one on the car - Anyone tried this?
