  Better than yours. C*nt.
Ah right, are these on the affordable models or the £500 drives?

The £500 ones that find their way into the Macbook Air and the Dell ATGs (amongst others). I think they use a NAND-based technology but don't quote me - until they come down to semi-reasonable price I won't be playing!

I have a Sony Vaio TX3 (11.1") and this Mac Air thing does look great, although the screen would still be too big for me (in the environments I'd use it in) and I'd have to run Windows in order to be able to run specialist work apps.

Does the Macbook Air still have a backlit keyboard? It doesn't look like the typical Apple affair, based on the pictures anyway.

Scrub that. I see it does indeed have a backlit keyboard. I like it, and as has already been said, the trackpad appears to be awesome. As an iPhone user I can imagine how good that will be, as I now often find it frustrating that I can't manipulate my PCs in the same way...

To all the Apple haters - shut the f**k up and buy something else then ;)

Damn those Poor people to hell ;)

Munson you can use Bootcamp and run Windows on the MAC as well.

The Macbook Air is technically very impressive but what a waste of money it is too. I'd rather have a Macbook at a far cheaper price and which is more usable.

I have to agree with sneeks. It is VERY cool and the tech geek in me wants one but it aint cheap but having said that for its size and power it is not badly priced IMO

Macbook FTW £560 in the states nearly 2 years ago

Yeah the equivalent spec Macbook is £450 cheaper with 2gb ram and has a faster processor. Add in the optical drive and I could never justify spending my money on the Air. However it is very sexy.

Yeah I know numbnuts, but then I may as well stick with my current Vaio. Am I wrong? :D

Yes because Vaio = s**t and just as expensive as the Apple ;)

LOL, well if Apple did an 11" 16:9 laptop perhaps I'd have been tempted at the time :D

For the record, the little Vaio is far from s**t. It's the best investment I've ever made in my work, and it's all tax deductable etc. etc.

I am tempted to get an Air just for kicks though. A splash of coffee table furniture, and if I don't like it I'll just throw it away or use it as a rolling board

Small laptops are nothing new, i still have my 1KG Vaio C1XD from 1999!
Ok so its a bit s**t now, but it runs xbuntu fine.

At the time it had

12Gb HDD
400mhz Intel/64mb ram (oooh)
800,000 Pixel Webcam
No optical drive, 1 USB, and a 11" x-wide screen.

iPod Touch news is kick in the teeth for current owners, £12.99 for Mail, Stocks, Weather, Maps and Notes, however all new iPod Touch will be shipped with the functionality built in at no extra cost.

Also got a lovely 1.1.3 update which appears to add 165MB of largely useless functionality for UK users (movie rentals)

You should have loaded the original iPhone apps on 1.1.2, then there is no reason to upgrade.

Well maps is better and you get webclips, but those are the only reasons why.

The 1.1.3 update is quite good, I'm happy enough with it. I did have my phone Jailbroken but didn't see any real reason to keep it that way.

Not now they have sorted a few things. Once the SDK comes im going to 1.1.3

Just upgraded to the apps, pretty impressed with them actually, £12.99 seems hefty for something that is free for new buyers, but it's not a bad way to spend 13 quid. Never been too interested in Jailbreaking it, looking forward to the legit apps that should be hitting the Touch this Summer.

Surely not worth £13 over the 1.1.2 iPhone apps?

These apps (well, mail & maps specifically) make a massive difference to the touch....

Long live accountability.

I already have the 1.1.2 apps from the iPhone on my touch though, which is why I ask if the differences between 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 is worth £13.

That depends on:

1) How long (if) it takes to find a way into 1.1.3.
2) What Apple actually provides as an SDK, there's a bit of speculation about what this "native sdk" is going to be.
3) You'll need 1.1.3 or higher to run SDK based applications.

By the way, 1.1.3 is a free upgrade - the apps are an "add on", but 1.1.3 is a pre-requisite for these apps.

Any idea how the Maps app finds your position? Whilst everything else works fine in Maps (I love it actually, worth the £12.99 on it's own) it can never locate my position. I assume it uses Wifi, and I had a nice strong signal where I was but it wasn't playing ball.

The traffic thing is frighteningly accurate, the journey time thing is waaaaay more accurate than Multimap.

The AP will have to know where it is (i.e latitude & longitude) and there will be a service running on it (or a server somewhere that knows the locations of the cloud hotspots) that the Touch will communicate with to retrieve this data.

Wouldn't be very accurate.
