New brake pads rubbing is this normal

Fitted some new pads and disks the other week, is it normal for the pad to rub on the disk slightly to start with whilst the brakes are bedding in. i came back from uni and when i got out the car there was a slight smell of burning and they smoked a little when i first parked up (dont know if it was because they were hot and its cold outside).

any help would be great, they feel fine, and they passed the MOT last week

I think it's normal for the pads to rub/drag slightly - my wheels spin freely but I always get a rhythymic squeak...squeal...squeak...squeal... when crawling in traffic from the noisy track pads - you never notice it normally as road pads are meant to be silent.

Did you give yours a decent few hard stops before this to get the protective coating off?

If not I'd say it's just that on the pads burning off from the slight drag.

Ah cheers mark, nope havent done any hard braking since changing them might give the car a bit of a blast on some country lanes tomorrow to warm them up, and then take it on the motorway / dual carriage way to allow them to cool gradually

this sounds quite normal as i had this for the first few miles after fitting pads however its totally gone now .

by that do you mean putting copper grease on the back of the pads, if so then yep i did that.

i got ATE pads and disks from eurocarparts for £60 the ATE pads have apparently superseeded the feredo pads on eurocarparts and the guy i spoke too seem to know his stuff, he said they were good, and better than the standard renault ones that they sell for less (obviously not as good as EBC greenstuff and brembo max disc combo). when i took the old ones off i discovered they were halfords pads :quiet:. Anyway for a 1.2 the ATE stuff should be fine, i dont do track days and i only use my car twice a week.
