New cambelt - Now a whine from engine?

  Clio 172 mk2, Audi S3
Hi, not sure if anyone can help or not. I have recently had my cambelt and aux belt changed. Since having them changed the 'engine' is now making a whining noise. I have searched previous forums and can describe it as being like a reversing noise but obviously not as loud.

Some people suggest that it could be the aux belt idler that needs changing? Would this still be the case if mine was only changed recently or can they adjust it to stop it from happening?

Many thanks. :)

At a garage in Portslade, not a Renault dealer but very reputable all the same.... Just annoyed as it drove like a dream before and now it just annoys me. :(

I got my aux belt changed and the steering screeches and whines when cold. When it's warmed up it only makes the noise on full lock. Sounds similar.

Took it back to the garage that did it and they think (without stripping it down) that the power steering pump is on the way out. Funny they didn't spot that when they filled up the power steering fluid though...

I had the tensioner renewed with my cambelt the other week
by my local garages Renault specialist. It was a Goodyear kit
with new belt, pulleys etc, fitted for £330! Bargain, compared to
renault and it's guaranteed for 20,000 miles.

Dunno if Fred agrees, but I always get the tensioners etc changed with the belt.
It would be a complete hole-pain if the tensioner gave up the
ghost after having the belt done......

yep, i agree totally, only problem being is the aux belt tensioner being expensive!

as i said in another thread, "its like paying for a prostitute and then just talking to her"
