New Computer Arrived, Cant get a picture?

My new computer from overclockers arrived today...

But... all connected up and I cant get a picture on my monitor at all.

On my old computer with AGP gfx card, I had my samsung lcd monitor connected to my computer with the dvi connectors.

Problem is this on my new computer... my graphics card has 2 dvi ports, and one s video. Ive tried the dvi cable in both of them but still no picture?!

Nothing mate... just says "Check Cable Connection" on my monitor... its got an S-Video connection next to the 2 DVI ones.... its got a N-Vidia box on a cable... one end being s video... then the box contains red, green,blue,yellow where you could plug in a HD components.

Try a new cable first to see if that is the problem. I had that problem with mine, the cable worked on the old PC but refused on the new one.

Very strange and not possible to find an explanation for but that was it. I took my PC appart three times trying to solve the thing before I plugged in a new cable. Doh

Just tried another DVI cable... phoned overclockers... briefly explained the problem and they said they are going to get an engineer to phone me back!

Could be that the output DVI is defaulting to a resolution far beyond that that the Samsung monitor can support? I recently bought an ATi 4870 card and that does exactly the same on my Iiyama 19" TFT running Vista. When I run it with XP however, it's fine.

Have you got an old CRT monitor nearby that you could try instead?

doesn't matter which you plug into will come out through either. Maybe reseat the gcard or try another...?

OMG!!! Ive just decided to open the case up and inspect... then laying loose on the bottom of the case was my 2gb ram stick!!!!! Its wasnt even in the slot, unless it fell out during transport??? Also I was meant to have 4gb so ive got to try and ring them now and some how explain how there was only 1 2Gb strip in there!

The actual box was juse the case box but on the bottom of the box was all initial city link (the courier) tape.... as if maybe it was falling apart and they had stuck it together. How the hell am I going to explain how I only received one 2gb stick instead of the 2?

What does the paperwork that came with it say 2, or 4? Just be honest with them, nothing more you can do.

Its ok all sorted, spoke to them, explained, they are going to send another 2gb stick off tofay, they put a note on file as well that the box may have been resealed by initial city link!

I'd want a new system TBH, anything that's been hit hard enough to dump the memory out of it's slot has done damage to the HDD(s).

And people wonder why I'll take very small profit margins to build computers over letting them go places like that - where I know they're put together by people so how much effort really is it to plug a monitor and power in and make sure it fires?!

initial city link are by far the worst courier i have ever delt with. everything thats been sent to me using them has always come with the box mangled to f**k.

I watched a city link driver bump roll a clearly boxed glass vivarium down our path. Thankfully the company that sent it had packed it really well!

Perhaps they never put the 2nd stick of memory in, in the first place?

Awesome. One of the best RTS's out there, imo. Did you get the original Company of Heroes with it as well, or just Opposing Forces?

Even bigger result... got home today, and they sent me 4gb or ram instead of 2gb! So I now have 6gb! even though windowx xp is only showing 4gb? All 3 are definetely 2gb strips!

Xp 32bit can only spare about 3.2gig of ram so even though it shows 4gig available it aint.

upgrade to vista 64bit so you can use all that 6 gig of ram

One more question... I have 3 x 2GB Strips... They are in DIMM slots 1,2 & 3 is this right?

personally just use Dimm 1 & 2 for dual channel putt the other stick away for safe keeping until you upgrade to a 64bit system.

Just been reading up, yes apparently xp 32bit only recognises upto 4gb
