New gearbox for my 172

  M4 LCI, X1, ZX10R
Just been told by Renault I need a new gearbox, due to the knocking noise i'm getting when lifting off the clutch when changing gear.

How much should I be looking at for a replacement box and fitting?

Also where would be the best place to source one from?

Been quoted £1249 + VAT from Renault :(

Yozza refurbed mine for £350 but I only needed new syncro's, depends whats knackered in the box

That sounds alot better than paying over a grand.

Is that with you Dan or a garage down your way as this will probably be on the credit card.

Its a well known garage in the motorsport trade, I sub out alot of work recon wise to him, i just do the removal and installation.

You can pay him by card, if you remove it yourself obviously it'll be alot cheaper, but i can do the removal and install if required, but i dont have a card machine unfortunatly.

Thats bad news mate, this is why I try to go easy on mine! Slow(ish) changes to try and preserve the life of it!

Mine has spent most of it's 40k life on the motorway in fifth, so it's had a easy time.

Thanks for the info Dan.

What sort of turn around are with talking about as i'd have to leave the car with you?

depending on how quickly the box was rebuilt, say a day removal and fitting, but it shouldnt be more than a few days.

Frank is very good with his boxes, so it shouldnt be too long.
