New instru = shift light??

Just out of interest

Got a mk1 172 and it never came with the shift light.

If i replaced the instrument panel from a 172 which has the shift light, will it work on mine or would i need all the wiring ect to make it work?

To be honest you shouldn't need one, the sound of the engine/gearbox about to go bang should be the indication you need to change gear!

It works on roughly, kinda, somewhere abouts, the same principle

But yeah that thing lol as per topic. If i exchanged my instrument panel with one that has the rev warning light or what ever we want to call it, will it work ??

Think its an internal function of the dials so should work afaik.

Yeah was hoping it might be all to do with the circuit board on the back of the instrument panel

yeh my 172 cup has a shift/over reving/ change gear nowwwwwwwwwwww type thing green gear stick light

not really sure if mine has it or not... hit the revs hard and no light came on anywhere... whats that sticker on the inside of the windshield in the middle just above the dash with the diagram of the gears for???

Some phase 1's don't have it its a waste anyway. it just warn your your 300rpm of the red line or so which mean nothing.

Because its not on the gear knob and ideally u would want to know where reverse is.
