New Insurance groups - 1-50

According to Autoexpress the new insurance groups (from 20 to 50) are now not going to happen in june as expected, its now pushed back to 2009.

But I thought this link was interesting to see what groups cars are going into in the new scheme.

The clio 197 is going from 15 to 30 and the megane is going from 17 to 35, so they seemed to have just doubled the numbers in those cases, and it should mean lower insurance when they are put into action as 15 was 75% up the scale but 30 is nowhere near 75%.

SO the only down point is that its not coming in as soon as expected and we have to wait another year!

no mate, thats a good thing, if you went form 20 to 50, thats bad, basically, 50 is the 20 so instead of only having 20 groups they have 50 to make it more granula, so the 197 going from 15 to 30 should mean a reduction in cost!

for example, the r26 is group 17 along with some jaguar thing, the new group for the megane is 35 whereas the jag is a 41.

some insurance companies use a similar system.

for instance if as a group 10 may cover a load of different cars. so i low group 10 would then become 21 or a high end group ten would be 22 so more expensive.

My insurance company uses a 1-100 scale anyway, more groups=more accurate

Good idea to create more groups, but could turn out to be an easy way to bump up everyone's premiums when this comes into action...

interesting, my dynamique is going up from 3-7.

the C4 i was thinking of is up form 6-15, and the megane i was concidering if from 5-12

but as booky said it suppose ihas advantages, i mean a 182 trphy is 17 its going up to grp 33, but the meg R26 is also 17 but its going up to 35.
ive scrolled that list and i cant see anything below grp3, so the cheapest cars the 107/C1/aygo are nor grp3.

it also appears that only cars after certain cars are begin recategorised, like a escort cozzy is nor grp 40 but a sierra cozz is still only 20, so would that mean that would be cheaper to insure than a proton persona???

As said a lot of companies have their own internal ratings so this won't have a blind bit of difference.

I don't see prices coming down just because your car has changed on the new scale.

all cars will get the new ratings from manufacturers though so its an important range, it doesn't matter what the insurance companies use as this is what all of that will be based on as this is the official grouping.

Interestingly the 172 Cup is going up exactly the same as the 172 (16 >> 31) yet I always found a lot of insurers bumped the Cup up a bit, many seemed to put it in Group 17.

This is purely to guide customers. As said before, each insurance company has their own take on vehicle groups. We already use a more complicated system than the 1-20 which your average punter assumes..

interesting, i found the cup to be cheaper that a 172 ff and even a 182 cheaper again! just the ph1 that was sky high [elephant]
