New Insurance Groups for 2010

  Facelift R53 Cooper S
I've gone from group 15 to group 30.....

So i guess that's good as i went from being in the top 3/4 of groups, to just being over half way

Lol ^^

My Dci is now 9 instead of 4.

By my calculations that should make my car 2% cheaper to insure :) (likely...)

I spose it is a better system with silly fast cars in same insurance group as big slow mercedes it does seperate them a bit. I seriously doubt it will cheaper tho unfortunately especailly for the cars that are now in the top groups

youd like to think itd mean yours and mine are cheaper (my leon group 34) but its more than likely going to be those who you use to be grouped with have no been upped in price and you stay the same

Hmm cant tell if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Guess we will know come renewal time this year if everyone starts getting higher prices!

This is what will happen:

a) Your car's insurance group rises, which means your insurance premium rises.
b) Your car's insurance group stays about the same, so your car insurance will go up gradually like everyone else's does (before taking NCB into consideration obviously)
c) Your car's insurance group ends up being lower, in which case the insurance company keep your premium the same and make more profit on it as a result.

There is no way that insurance companies are going to miss a money making opportunity like this. Our society is based on greed. Making money is the basis of Capitalism. They will use this as an opportunity to get more money out of everyone because they can, and because the law says we have to have motor insurance there's nothing we can do to stop it.

For info, insurance premium tax is also going up at some point this year so the motorist is going to lose out there anyway.

i will be sure to bring it up when my insurance is due in march.

seeing as my car has been dropped 20% ish in the insurance groups, is my premium dropping by a similar figure?

Insurance grouping is only there a a rough guide and differs from company to company. Each insurer will have their own claims statistics which they will work from. Do not read too much into any groupings you see... concern yourself more with claim free driving!

And also your car value has just dropped as no one will want to buy it. High tax high insurance and petrol prices going up without anyone kickin off. I remember the fuel strikes 10 years ago, are we giving in now. :( wish I had held out for my diesel audi now. Give it a week or two and see how many performance cars are going cheap!

I've just tried doing an identical quote with my insurer and its coming up as 30 quid more expensive so very much doubt prices will go down.
