New Lens

  1.8 Civic EX
ok so i got some monies for my birthday and thinking of purchasing a new lens.

it's for my olympus e400 so limited lens choices due to the 4/3 fitment.

I've already got the 14-42 f3.5-5.6 kit lens and the 70-300 f4-5.6 but am after something along the lines of the nifty 50 you nikon/cannon users use..

i've come across the following...any opinions on these? as i don't really understand all the abbreviations etc..

Olympus 17mm f2.8 Pancake Lens

Olympus 25mm f2.8 Pancake lens
http://www.cameraworld.co.uk/ViewPr...+f2.8+Pancake+lens+&CAT_CODE=2&SUBCAT_CODE=33

Sigma 24mm f/1.8 EX DG ASPHERICAL MACRO
http://www.cameraworld.co.uk/ViewPr...DG+ASPHERICAL+MACRO&CAT_CODE=2&SUBCAT_CODE=33

i'm thinking the sigma due to the f1.8 and it's twice as much so assuming much better lol

  Cupra
EX = top of the Sigma range
DC = for crop sensors or for digital... Not sure which
HSM = the focus motor it uses. Also supposed to be sigmas best.

It is a cracking lens but I don't know how the focal lengths on Olympus work out compared to canon. Having a really wide low aperture lens is a waste IMHO as the wider the angle, the greater the depth of field. One of the nicest things about having a f1.x lens is creating nice bokeh. That said, there is not going to be that much difference between 30 and 24mm.

  1.8 Civic EX
from what i understand it's a 2x crop factor on mine...the 70-300 i have is equivilent to 140-600mm in 35mm terms if that makes sense...

so i would assume the 24mm = 48mm and the 30mm = 60mm which would be quite a noticable difference, although nothing taking a step forward or back would fix...

Only just seen this.

As suggested really the Sigma 30mm F/1.4 is the best option for you. These were all done on the Sigma

This however was taken on my Olympus E1 but using the Nikon 50mm F/1.8 using a four thirds to nikon adaptor from ebay and is a great combo but at 100mm equivalent its not the most flexible.
