New Member - First Car and it's a Clio!

Alright lads n lasses?

So I passed my test on 25th of June and just got my first car!

It's a 2001 Clio Grande 5dr.. not in bad nick, paid £450 for it, 100k Miles.

The grey section at the bottom of the doors is where I had some rust repaired, I dont think it looks too bad! hehe

I have no experience of clios tbh, was wondering if anyone else thinks it looks like its riding too high on the shocks? getting some replacement standard springs for the front today along with new pads for the disks. It has no service history so don't know what its had done, but I was thinking a full service couldn't do any harm, it had no advisories on the most recent MOT.

Any advice on common faults, things I should be getting done?

The wheel trims are just temporary, came with the car. I'm thinking about getting a set of alloy wheels for it, but just standard renault ones at the minute, I don't want to put wheels on it that would probably cost more than the car is worth lol!

Welcome to the forum!! totally awesome resource for everything clio, from 1.2 all the way up to 3.0L!

All clios as standard sit pretty high on their shocks, I could get my fist in on top of the tyre with room to spare!
common things on 1.2s are lots of short journeys will cause condensation to form around the oil cap - looking like a blown head gasket but it's fine. some of them also have bit of a problem where an ECU wire can rub through on a piece of the frame and cause running issues. There's the usual squeeks and rattles from any decade+ car, and if you haven't already, i'd get the sunroof seen to - they leak as the factory seal breaks down after time.

Definitely worth you paying the £12 to become a full member, you'll get access to the Trader section where specialists can give you good deals and discounts on things from parts and servicing to insurance and modifications/extras. you'll also get access to the guides section which is an aladdins cave of information, as well as access to the user marketplace where you can buy/sell things for the clio and get pretty good deals!

Welcome! Looks pretty tidy, get the bottoms of the doors sprayed and some standard alloys along with a service and you'll be onto a winner. As said already a membership is well worth it.

Cheers for the welcome all, wondering if fitting a set of standard clio alloys would affect my insurance or not? And what sizes would fit? Looking at the arches i reckon 15's would go in without too many problems? anyone done this? I think a membership is in order in that case

To get the answer to the insurance - you'll really have to speak to the company, i'd imagine it's not a huge problem though and probably wont affect the insurance. 15" will fit just fine!

Definitely get some nice standard renault alloys for it

Well worth it and to be honest i dont even think the insurance will mind as its a renault factory part made for a clio so doubt they will complain.

Other good thing is just give it a really good clean! also if you are unsure of the cambelt been done then just for a precaution id get it done!
