New owner of a V6.

All done and what a difference!

He took the car out for about 15 mins and on return he thought the steering wasn't reacting quickly enough and felt the alignment was out.

The rebound settings on the rear were 2 clicks out from one side to the other. He recommended a full alignment and then live with it for a week or so then would see about corner weighting.

Explained how I wanted the car to feel like a track car rather than have a fast road set up.

5 hours later having watched how accurately he was re setting LHS to RHS it's like a different car, steering is pinpoint ( although to me it was fine before ), car still rides very firmly yet any slight hint of crashiness has gone and the car now sits with a small amount of negative camber on each wheel.

Would you mind posting your final alignment specs?

Only slightly off subject....

After packing it all in 2.5 yrs ago, have done a couple of bits...

2yrs ago back in London for a week with an Arab Sheikha and said never again.
2yrs ago worked on the womens CWC and said never again.
2 months ago worked on the mens CWC and said never again.
Tonight on a ferry to Holland dropping a few off who shouldn't be in the country, daft money so NOT saying never again...could be a quite regular trip.

How old is too old?

Slight incoming interior change!

Managed to source a dash top and the A pillar covers from a Ph1 V6.

These, once I collect them will be going in to be flocked in a Dark Grey colour to match the steering wheel. Wise move really as Renault dash tops have a habit of the surface covering on them going poxy over the years due to sunlight. It's as though the top surface starts to melt on them so having this one flocked will solve that problem.

Keeping in mind that all the interior is either grey or blue, the harnesses that are fitted are blue....have an urge to replace with yellow ones as per the wheels but unsure.

Thoughts?

Please note :- harnesses have been routed properly since the pic was taken!

The above post was copied and pasted from a non Renault forum hence the bit about melting dash tops.....not trying to teach anyone how to suck eggs here (y)

I think yellow harnesses would look a bit s**t tbh.

That's what initially put me off getting them.

You know how it is with ideas though, very few get binned, most get put to the bottom of the list!

Quite like the idea of the outside looking nuts and the inside being quite subtle.....thought it worth an ask though.

Flocking idea has gone into the bin.

Decided to have them done in dark grey alcantara, think it'll look smarter and possibly last longer.....the grey engine covers will also be done at a later date.

Just read the full thread. Really enjoyed it and like what you have done to your V.

Its nice to see someone that actually uses it.

Thanks.

Had an investment car previously and although it did very well over a reasonably short space of time, going into the garage and looking at it yet only using it rarely made me realise I like cars for driving.

This was the investment one...

Small update time..

Have managed to find a Janspeed exhaust system including branched manifolds.....finding this is a bit similar to finding unicorn crap under your sofa. It'll be collected 01/09 and fitting will be arranged at SGM....hopefully on sometime in September.

Out of the oem 4 cat system, some may have disappeared out of the back of the car and gone off mousing ( maybe even all four ).

Just need to get to Boots and look at earplugs (y)

Exhaust collected and will be going on along with a PH2 gearbox as soon as SGM can get it booked in.....will also be having a new starter motor and air-con pump but they're by the by.
Always fancied some decent pics, plenty about but never felt many of them did it justice. A mate of a mate is useful with a camera and fancies getting in to automotive photography. Out with him last night and the results speak for themselves.

We all read reports of poor customer service and how the standards of said service are kind of expected these days.

The car has Cobra RSR seats fitted, they've been in for 2 years now although mileage with them in is only around 8000 or so.

The left hand side of the drivers seat has started collapsing as though the foam has started to break down. Mailed Cobra yesterday to see how they'd recommend repairing it. Got a mail back today asking if I'd send a couple of photos to them which were duly sent.

Mailed back within 30 minutes saying if I could get the seat to them they'd repair it whilst I waited. They were also concerned the passenger seat could go the same way so they'd also like the chance to do that also.....all this would be free of charge!!

As far as customer service goes, this takes some beating and thought it was worth a mention.

Well, not been here for a while so bit of an update.

As per above post, Cobra sorted my seats and they're now as good as new. However, on the way there, someone crunched into the back of my car at a set of lights! He admitted liability to his insurers so all good...or so we would have thought.

Repair estimate, for the worst case scenario e.g. potential hidden damage was into 5 figures and the 3rd party insurers were nothing but a bunch of skanks. Denying having received the estimate and photos (even though a read receipt was sent back). Early Jan I spoke to them and mailed them highlighting the lies they'd been coming out with and gave them 7 days to get repairs underway. Lo and behold, 2hrs later all was approved!

Anyhow, the car is down with the specialist who looks after it, he got it ready and sent it to the bodyshop in Bristol that he uses, hopefully will be out of there within 2 weeks and back to him and maybe I'll have it back by mid-March. Whilst he has it there are a few alterations being carried out to the back end.

Damage ended up being ... New tailgate reqd, new rear beam reqd, n/s composite cracked, rear quarter panels bonding broken, exhaust bent so needs repairing, new wrap reqd from A pillar back and no doubt quite a few other small bits.

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
I put a phase 1 V6 through a hedge & it took Mark Fish 5 months to have it repaired. & cost £16k ( wasnt CAT D )
That was when the parts were available as well - was mint when I got it back - basically brand new.

Im surprised it didnt go to SG motorsport

It did mate.

Scott looks after it, he sends his bodywork stuff to a place in Bristol. Once they done their bit it'll be back to him to have it all put back together.

Damn that's crap luck mate. Good job the insurance didn't write it off with a big repair bill incoming. At least we can still see it in all its glory for the rest of February in the calendar👍.

Fortunately I have a high guaranteed value on the car so, in effect, they repair the car or give me £35k.

Best £25 quid I've ever spent (y)
