New Slimline PS3

dk

  911 GTS Cab
Sony has announced a slim version of the PlayStation 3 console at its gamescom 2009 conference.
The machine will be 33% lighter and smaller, and come in a matte finish.
As well as a 120GB hard drive, DS can reveal that the console will add the Bravia Sync feature, allowing control of the XMB through a television remote, and the removal of additional operating system installations. A vertical stand will also be available, titled product ID CECH-2000.
It will be priced at £249.99 in the UK, and $299 and €299 when it launches during the first week of September.

sounds good to me, although not sure how it will look in matte.

I'll wait till around Xmas, price wars are coming and they'll probably be down to £200 by then.

Saw the press shots on engadget, looks cheap. The plastics they've used look horrible. Certainly not as nice as the original Piano Black/Chrome effect. Only real plus is the 30% quoted reduction in power use, makes it more feasible as a PVR.

I'll be keeping my 60GB model.

Looks ok to me, bet it doesnt attract dust as much as mine, and I bet with the PSU outside the unit it wont have the jet engine loud cooling fan cutting in all the f**king time either!

Very nice I think the plastics are nice. Matte look about them.

Looks horrid.

Mine's perfect anyway as my TV is gloss black/matt silver part, exactly the same as my PS3! Couldn't make a better match :approve:

Just read this in the paper.

I'm an Xbox fanboi, but this looks pretty nice.

I assume the original shape will now drop in price, seeing as though the 80GB is priced at £250 too.

This picture sums up the size difference.

I love the Piss3 TBH.

I use it for all my music and HD shows/movies, streamed over my network. I use it as a PVR with Play TV. I use it for Blu-rays, and I have played the odd awesome game on it. All my xbox does is play Forza 2 once in a blue moon. I know it can do more, but it's too frickin' noisy to use as a media centre IMO.

Glad I've got both, but as a general media kit, my PS3 has seen lots of use, and has been amazing value for me. I doubt very much I'll change to this new machine though, as the current one is hidden behind my plasma anyway.

Another fail is V3.0 Firmware.

Having watched Sony's demo of the new release I'm disappointed to say the least. In summary it seems to include everything nobody has been asking for:

- Dynamic themes (read animated .gif).
- An additional 3/4 PS Store icons plastered over the desktop.
- A status bar, OK it's useful... but who sends messages anyway?
- What's New, care?
- More avatars, including some you can buy, sigh...
-3D Trophies, I couldn't care less about the fking things.

And that's about it...

Still don't see why they can't imlpement Cross Game Chat, and some sort of homoerotic party mode. Additional codec support would also have been appreciated.

Useless.

I did find it highly amusing that it was being touted by Sony and their fanboys to be something of epic change/innovation. When it finally lands what do we get, yup a virtual mall full of desperate virgins crowded around any female avatar in sight, slow loading, and f**k all to do.
