New Sub and Amp

I am looking to buy new subs and amp, preferably the subs would be pre-boxed. I can spend around £250 It would also be good if the sub and amp came in a package. If anyone knows anything like this please tell me :)

Dunno m8, all i no is that the more expensive it is the better. Ive read loads of posts on here about how not good sony ice is. do a serach...

Ive had a pioneer 12 inch sub and it was ok, and a rockford 12 inch sub which was a bit better both cost about 100 quid each without box running on a 600 watt max 2 way amp.

My m8s just bought a vibe single 12 inch pre amped sub from halfords, its the one in the yellow box meant to be limited edition or something. That sounds pretty nice, but is expensive.

You cant really rely on Max power figures but try to match the rms figures instead. TBH Id avoid Kenwood and sony as they are far from the best. For your budget a Vibe active sub would be ideal or have a look at www.mcs-direct.co.uk for some pioneer stuff. Recently been impressed by the 12" one with the Carbon in the middle.

Yeah JL Audio are pretty good. I rate Alpine amps as well. My mate has that JBL sub but is run by a monster amp and sounds really good but the amp would push it over budget. No doubt when Bambam comes on hell advise you and Id follow it, very knowledgable guy! But remember you dont need to get everyting the same make in an install. Ive got Alpine, infinity, pioneer and vibe in mine and I think it sounds pretty sh*t hot!

I already have a pair of Kenwood 6x9s that are pretty good, they are worth £150 and i got em for £20. I have a Splx 350W amp to power them. In that JBL package there is some 6x9s, I could probably sell the old amp and power 1 set of 6x9s through the head unit and one through the UBL amp.

right quick one, not got much time online at work

the jl and kicker deal, would be good if it used a different amp, the impulse amps are not of the best quality, last one i seen used self destructed when pushed hard

<KLB> the crunch equipment is at that price for a reason, its extremely poor kit, very similar to RM Audio

Alpine package deal seems a decent enough combination, wont be too bassy though, quite well focused sound

personal choice, Resonant Engineering RE10 coupled with Phoenix Gold Octane-R 2.5:2

will reply in more detail when i get time

ahh thanks bam, was going to get crunch under the pretences that it was good kit.

ill have to re think.

Ive never been that keen on sony stuff tbh, way too "mediocre" to me. Pioneer, JBL is what i have as <KLB> mentioned the "JBL GTO936e 300W 6x9 speakers" ill pont out i have them. They cost me £35 with free del. from empire-direct and they are mint. I wanted some cost effective speakers and was so suprised how good they were.

Who ever said the more expensive the better is talking b****cks imo

ricjax99 - i can almost certainly say you have never listened to a top of the range system, there is a massive difference in terms of quality between even the budget and mid range, and i wont even get started on the arguments against 6x9s (use the search and youll see what i mean)

kniftron - crunch equipment is basically put together with little or no development on a shoestring budget, in terms of quality, extremely poor

Yeah I looked and noticed the Crunch amp was 4 ohms. Obviously the reason for it being cheap.

Bambam, i need an amp, and boxed sub/s and am willing to pay up to £250 maybe a little over. The stuff you recommended was a little too expensive. Got any other ideas?

look here vibe cbr10 with built in amp wiring kit and power cap delivered for less than £200

http://www.newimagecarhifi.comwww.newimagecarhifi.com or its .co.uk cant remember

Its possible to get a rocky sub and amp for under £200 all you have to do is scour the internet ads

http://www.bassjunkieswww.bassjunkies http://www.alphacaraudio.comwww.alphacaraudio.com http://www.mcs-direct.comwww.mcs-direct.com http://www.cel-direct.comwww.cel-direct.com http://www.letsbuycaraudio.comwww.letsbuycaraudio.com http://www.caraudiosecurity.comwww.caraudiosecurity.com to name a few you may have to change .com for .co.uk in some cases

the combination is suggested comes to a combined price of £230 you can then account for the £20 left over for making your own install, if required, i can supply dimensions for the enclosure if you can give me an enclosure volume

buy jl audio i got a 12" wo and i love it you could get a second hand 12" w3 for that 300watts rms very nice drops low too then buy a good powered amp y are u after 2 subs? as u could get one that would be twice as powerfull

I never argued that matey, i just said "the more expensive the better is b****cks imo". Not all the best stuff is priced higher than others.

Theres a jl audio sub and amp for under 250 at cel-direct have seen an ad somewhere but its not on their website may have to phone them

Ok,v I think I may have found a good combo, the JL e1200 amp and a 12" Rockford Fosgate RFP-4412 sub.

Here are the specs for the sub:

12" Punch HE series subwoofer
200W RMS power handling
400W Peak power handling
2.5 inch voice coil diameter
87.6 dB SPL (dB @ 1w/1m)
Frequency range: 26Hz-250Hz
Mounting diameter: 11 inches
Mounting depth: 5.8125 inches
Box volumes
minimum sealed - 0.9 cubic feet
maximum sealed - 1.75 cubic feet
and the amp:

1 x 120 Watts RMS @ 4 OHM Rated @ 12.5v
1 x 200 Watts RMS @ 2 OHM Rated @ 12.5v

Class AB Circuitry. Frequency Response 10Hz – 25kHz. Signal/Noise Ratio >104dB. Damping Factor >200. Variable 12dB Octave High/Low Pass X-over 50-200Hz. On-Board +6dB Bass Boost. Advanced Thermal/Overload Protection. Amp Preout. Optional Remote Bass Boost +12Db (RBC-1). High Level Input

A lot of this stuff is jibberish to me but I was trying to match up the RMS :p Was hoping someone could tell me if this will be quite loud and what the sound quality will be like.

also I can substitute this sub for a 15" one of the same power, would this benefit me at all?

the middle one is the one that Has (clio16vsport) has got - v loud - v bassy! lol!

Ive got 300w infinity 6x9s and there loud and good quality - so id reckon there all pretty good!

The decision is yours! lol

to be honest, unless you are going for a 2 year old sub, dont look at rockford fosgate, they have ventured more down the max power route, swapping quality for sales, they are now falling well behind their rivals

the infinity basslink is a good idea, but not very flexible, i personally prefer to have a fully changeable system, that way you have more flexibility if you ever wanted to change
