new suspension, wheels pointing inwards ALOT

  M135i
Is this right or does it just need spacers ? fitted some v maxx coilovers last night and there is a slight rub on full lock but the guy said once it gets tracked or w.e it is, it will be fine. Will it ? he said that i MAY need 5mm spacers on. The wheel kind of slopes inwards :S

Not too sure mate, im guessing once you have the tracking etc done it should be sweet! and let us know about the vmaxx, what they are like etc :D

Been out in them today and although i s**t myself when ever i have to put full lock on they do seem great little kits. Cnt find anythin wrong with them so far, Only thing is the guy who fitted them said the back isnt adjustable, can you normally adjust the back ?

Lowering that much will create a lot of negative camber as you've found out (top of wheels pointing in). Tracking it will only set the wheels straight (still needs doing as the tracking will now be out due to the different ride height/camber). This coupled with the narrow 1.2 track makes it very noticeable how the wheels sit in.

You could fit some spacers to bring the wheels out though.

o, so the proper term is negative camber ?

Will 5mm spacers sort that out ? also will they help the tyres from rubbing on the side on full lock

you take it to a garage and they will sort your camber and tracking out

Spacers will help you from rubbing on full lock, depending on the size of your spacers longer bolts may necessary, and yes negative camber is what the top of the wheel sloping into is referred to, its often done by the euro crowd and people go to extremes as they think it looks good.

That can't be right, they clearly state its adjustable.

Does he mean it ain't dampening adjustable.

I thought that but he defo said the height wasnt adjustable. ive gotta go see the guy again on mon anyway so will speak to him again then.

How much am i looking to sort that out for ? just so i dont get ripped off.

Is £25 for just the tracking about right ?

Camber and tracking is around £50 - £60. Get both done at the same time.

Tracking on it's own is around £18 where I live.

too much negative camber will scrub the edge off the tyres very quickly. you need to be very careful when altering set ups like this. If the geometry is all wrong, the car will handle really badly.

He hasn't had a geom yet, so this isn't supposed to be like this, plus the mechanic sounds a fool.

Where in the NW can i take it then ? and how would it cost me you think ?

Just to be clear i need to do a 'geometry' and not just tracking and camber. ( its not for track use btw) just normal roads.

Thanks guys

Good price that.

I would advice somewhere, but the only places i know is powerstation and jamsport, and i they aint near you.

Can the camber be adjusted on a non sport ? had a couple of people say they cnt and that they naturally go inwards the lower you go

Yes pretty much all macpherson strut design gain negative camber when you lower the car. The only way to alter it is perhaps through camber-correcting bolts on the strut to hub assembly (but there's a limit to how much as AFAIK they are just thinner necked bolts) but the proper way to setup geometry is by fitting adjustable top mounts.

Sill not sure what i totally need to sort out, from what i gather i need some camber bolts and to sort the tracking out. Is that all ?

Will the camber bolts sort the negative camber on the car now ? and will a garage fit these ?

RIGHT !

As a whole when lowering cars you need to get the tracking done which is the TOE.

But when fitting coilovers you need to get a whole GEOMETRY, which is the Toe, Camber and ride height sorted. You can drive it perfectly fine now, but it will wear your tyres excessively and will not drive as best it can.

Im not entierly sure on this, but most coilovers you can adjust the camber, but maybe with these V-MAxx you will need camber bolts, best to ring your supplier and ask.

But im sure that with the FK high sports and Konigsports, you can adjust the camber without camber bolts as they already have some sort of camber correction on the coilover strut itself.

Any garage will fit camber bolts, yes. But best of checking with your supplier first, weather you need them or not.

Do not check with the mechanic you used as he seems to think you cannot adjust the rear ride height, which is completly wrong.

woohoo i understand now thanks mate :D

Small matter of actually getting it done now lol

Thanks again :star:
