New tyres for the 172

right, my front tyres are again shot (but got 10k-ish out of them this time). ive had no real problems with the Contis (please, lets avoid the Conti debate). A tyre I loved on my Golf was called the Goodyear Eagle Ventura. Its a wet tyre that was excellent in the wet, and almost as good as anything else Ive had in the dry. I would like this tyre (or its new equivalent again) but it could be that it suited that characteristics of the Golf well (so it might be crap on the Clio). Anyone here have this tyre on their 172?

I would like a wet tyre because where I live when it rains and all the leaves tumble down, it gets slippery, plus it rains a lot anyway generally and I just like the comfort of knowing its a good wet tyre. Tyre noise aint too much of an issue as I dont do that many long journeys, I like progressive break-away should it ever happen, and thats about it. Budget has to be decided, but Im a bit flush this month (for once) so i can spend good money for good rubber. Ideas appreciated, esp if you can also point me to an independent review/test of the tyre under various conditions.

y0z has been running Yoko A359 (i think) on his Cup. He gave mine a drive the other day which is on F1s. He was very impressed, as everyone I know who has swapped to them has been.

Two of my mates, both of which had Bridgestones on their cars from new swapped to them and couldnt believe the difference. Thats on an Impreza Turbo and a TT 225.

What about these Michelin Exalto 2s that EVO have been raving about? They say it makes a big difference to the handling.

are Uniroyals good then? Reason I ask, is I had them on my second Golf, and they were atrocious (that said, were going back ten years now and it was probably a different Uniroyal tyre than the one you suggested) but my nightmare of that brandname persists. But, if you reckon theyre really, really good, then Im interested.

Uniroyals - excellent in the wet - but try lift off oversteer speed round a roundabout / fast dry road cornering and youll find they squeal and scrub and dont have anywhere near as good a grip as the original Contis. The tread broke down in chunks on mine after abuse - not recommended!!

Go for Pirelli P-zero Neros - very good wet and dry. Or the Goodyear gsd whatsits everyone bangs on about.

They are far better than my contis in the dry anyway.. the contis just seem to let go at random times without much pushing..

Just Bought Pirelli P zero Neros -

Had contis first then changed to BF goodrich which were excellent but couldnt get hold of them for 3 weeks at my supplier so i tried a full set of p zero neros.



Excellent Handling in the Wet and the wall of the tyre seems stronger when my 172 is pushed around bends which gives better handling.Over 80 mph im not so impressed though but in a straight line the grip on a dry day is also awsome. Cost 50 quid a set more than BF Goodrich though.

Overall I find them to be a good tyre and the best grip in the wet ive experienced so far.
