New Windscreen

Got a couple of big chips on the drivers side of my windscreen, one being in the driver line of sight.

Don't think repairing these will solve the problem so how should I go about getting a new windscreen and what are the costs involved on my Clio 182?

Call up you insurance company ? See what they say if you have windscreen cover ?
Make sure you get a new gel pack thing too when you get it done.

I checked my Tesco Value insurance, and guess what... I'm not covered!

I'm an idiot for buying the cheapest insurance, I know but it seemed good at the time (at least I can renew with someone else in 3 months)

So how much should I expect for a quote, and who should I ask please?

Maybe give RAC windscreens a call? http://www.rac.co.uk/web/windscreens/ or even Autoglass.

I'd say around £200+?
Do you have a FF yeh? could be a little more than std clio screens due to you having the heat reflective/rain sensors.

Think you are looking at £350 plus for the athermic windscreen. I need a new one for my Dynamique, thinking of just having a standard one put in. Cheaper to replace in future, and I can decide for myself when to put windscreen wipers on, and usually override the auto wiper function anyway.

I've heard that auto glass are expensive, so it's worth getting a good few quotes tbh.

yes if your paying cash autoglass will sting you try and get it done for about150

I very much doubt he'd get an identical screeen that cheap tbh, he's looking at £200 -250 (some places even want more than that)

Make sure u insure urself under someone who covers windscreens but get a cheap excess (say £100). Then put a brick through it, ring the insurance, get autoglass to fit a new one (pay the £100 excess) then ur laughin!

All for £100. I managed to put a huge spider like crack in mine a few months back by kicking me rugby ball the wrong way lol. Autoglass came an replaced it the next day and i didnt have to pay a penny. Im wit liverpool victoria.

^^ Glass excess is usually separate to the main policy excess, and it varies from about £25-80 dependant on the insurance company you go with. I thought I needed a new screen the other day but the chap repaired it for me instead. Would have been £70 otherwise.

So if you're not due an MOT in the next 3 months, might be worth holding out until you renew insurance and change company.

I had quite a big crack repaired for free last year with a company thats quite often outside Halfords Winchester iirc they are called Glass technologies.

i had ours changed the other week due to a big crack, local company came and replaced it with some nice shiny PIlkington glass for £100 fitted
