Newbie female owner requires Clio boffins help!!

  1999 1.2 Clio
Hi posting on here for a female friend, I will get her to sign up asap.

It all started last week when my mate Shenas N reg Skoda 1.3's gearbox failed. She asked my to take a look and as the car was out of test a month and needed a gearbox I told her best scrap it.

So the hunt was on for another cheap run around.

Today I went with her and a mechanic friend to look at a inexpensive Black T reg 1.2 Clio 2 door.

It has done 97 k and has just been serviced and Mot'd last month. It also came with 4 months tax. And part service history including timing belt at 48k (how often do these need changed on a 1.2 8 valve?)

The only fault my mechanic could find was that the front exhaust section was broken and banging under the car.

It has a couple of cosmetic problems in that the lacquire on one door has peeled badly and it has 13" Alloys with missing centre caps.

My second question to you guys is if I post a pic of these alloys can you identify if they are genuine renault or not and help my start to source caps.

We will sleeve the front pipe for now and give the car a good valet/touch up.

Then it will go to another mate with a paintshop that will do something about the paint laquire on the door.

We paid £ 780 for the car which seemed a bargain time will tell.

I am unsure of the model as the V5 just says 99 1.2 clio. Yet it has power steering and front fogs and alloys..

Cheers for any help advice! will post pics of car once I clean it.

Thanks in advance,

Graham (Inverness)

Get some pics of the car / wheels up, then someone will get their 'sherlock holmes' hat on i'm sure.

Oh, and welcome to CS.

Timing belt every 72k or every 5 years

I recommend every 3 years or 50k whatever comes first

99 clio 1.2's are a very good little car and very little goes wrong with them. Parts are widely available and they are very cheap to maintain. The price you paid for that car is very good. A clean example, well looked after would go for double that.
