hi only just bought a 172 cup 53 plate! 62,000 miles been driving it a week goes like stink its going in for cambelt soon but got a few questions!

1. after it warms up it has a ticking noise can only hear it inside the car? is it dephaser pulley? or maybe has the garage i bought it from put crappy oil in?

2. What oil is recommended for this car?

3. when its warm revs about 700-800 rpm at idle and souds little lumpy is this ok?

1, yer possibly signs of dephaseer on its way out,
2, fully synth 5W-40
3, yes there all like that unless you have it re mapped

Also get some one decent to do the cambelt, who have proven track record of working on these engines!

Cheers for the replys!! I'm from cardigan! Really good open roads here! getting the job lot done by my usual garage they've done all my cars in the past top mechanics lots of faith in them and cheap! Only problem is the parts cost cambelt kit, aux belt kit, dephaser pulley, water pump and tidy oil!

hi, im from the rhondda, s. wales. my clio makes the same noise. its not the cam or aux belt, ive had them changed. The garage told me that its either the oil or water pump, but nothing to worry about. Ive had that noise for over 2 yrs and the car runs fine. My car has been remapped and it can idle a bit rough but, apparently this is normal!
