Newbie looking for oldies

No not a dating request.

I've joined up to see if there is much of a valver community left alive. On clearing out a shed of a friend I've came across some old parts and wondered if there are still a few on the road? Having had a bit of retro interest tweaking I've found myself scanning the classifieds. Have they all gone to the great rust yard in the sky?

Welcome,

Fair few of us kicking about still, but most are dead or not for sale as the rarity now means most owners are keeping hold of them. Pop over to the facebook pages, just search 'Clio 1.8 16v Owners' or similar to find us all!

There is however a naples on ebay currently with a Williams lump in it, 3.2k :)

Yes, I saw that on my trawl through, I must admit I do have a fondness for the Naples and Brooklands colours. Unfortunately it's a little outside my government sanctioned 1 hour walk. It does look good though. Do you know much about it/them?

Glad to see another fan! :)

I am also hoarding parts  much to the missus' chagrin - I definitely want one again, but they are going up in price now (which I guess is a good thing if it means more are saved).

I never remember seeing that may on the roads even way back, a few but not many. The last one I saw driving was in Gateshead and that was in 2011. I've been liking the idea of one for a while now so I'll keep an open mind.

I don't know much about that specific car, think it was bought and lightly restored for a TV show/advert or something similar

I myself am pretty well versed in mk1 clios, having had around 10 in total 16v/Williams' over the years. Currently still have 2 in the stable but both are far from stock which I regret somewhat. One's a full blown track car using mainly mk2 sport components and the other was a firebreathing turbo monstrosity that's now an ongoing saga of a project and is currently a rotting shell on my drive......sigh....one day

Cheers Coops, maybe someone on here might know the history of the one in the advert, It looks like it was used for the 30 year Clio anniversary advert and the outside looks good at least.

It's good to know there is some support for them and should one pop up at the right time I know where to go looking for some technical knowledge.

What happened to the Clio16valver forum in the end?

Did it just close due to lack of money to run it?

I'm glad that WilliamsClio is still going, I hope it's not costing too much given the much lower traffic nowadays!

@White16valver yeah died matey after previous owner didn't pay hosting. Site was deleted and lost about last 6 years from previous backup before host change. As such basically write off and we all moved to Facebook group instead. Not the same though, forums work better imo by miles

Noooooooo

But also not unexpected / unusual in this virtual world we live in, sadly. :(

I have so many bookmarks on different forums, all with valuable knowledge - I need to spend some serious time PDFing and printing!

Gone are the days that we have a wall of books and reference material - it's all out there in the ether now, lol.

Agreed about Facebook - not the same community spirit, and I hate social media generally ;) :D

It's a shame to lose so much information and experience that would be accumulated over the years. I would've thought the forum could've been absorbed by another in some way. I seem to think the DCi forum went a similar way although maybe not so much call for them nowadays.

I agree with White16valver I was never a fan of Facebook or the like but might have to get along to the group.

  A SHED!
The true mk1 clio. Had two valvers. One with a 2.0 Williams block done by Nick hill of hillpower. In terms of character they were the best times I ever had driving. They made my 172 cup look modern. It's shame they've been lost to history. I was offered my old valver for £500 but ringing around for parts and rebuild etc. Nobody was willing to take the various jobs on. Rebuild/respray etc.Shame. it was near impossible to source bits for them.

Should have bought it and stuck it in storage!

Either that or post it on here (after PMing me ;) ) :D
