Welcome along Colin, you wont be stuck on looking for a 'cheap' 172, they have almost plummeted in value recently!
Anyone will tell you though, service history is key - belt changes namley. It's an expensive job hence alot of examples havent had them done so if you do venture, ask for receipts etc.
Thanks for yhe welcome danny and I know all about the timing belt a mate had a 182 and was told to change it but killed his engine but im not fussed as ill be doing it all any way
