Newbie with V6 ,just bought!!

Hi everyone.

Ive just bought a clio V6 for the weekends for a bit of fun.

I traded in a Civic type r for it,i love the V6 its a beast alright.

Its on a 51 plate by the way in silver.

Just a quick question,it uses alot of water at the moment,is it due to the heat and the engine in the rear or is it the air con cause ive had it on flat out the last couple of days?

Also does anyone else whos got a V6 notice how people stop and stare and point at you all the time or is it just me being a scruffy old roofer covered in tatooes!!

Only a few people here with Clio V6s (Lucky f**kers) be preapred for the why didnt you wait for the Mk2 gang. Ignore those Jealous buggers ;)

Dont know about the water. Few people here with V6s

Probs cause you are a scruffy roofer hehe! Nah they look awesome in the flesh and ousnd superb!

Sod the why didnt you wait for the mk2 gang,i bought it cause i liked it and i didnt want to buy a new one after all the hastle i had with a new Civic type r i am put off for life buying brand new.

Thats what i thought mate,maybe its just the heat,with the engine in the rear it gets bloody hot in there.

Who cares its under warrenty and ill get it sorted.

Check the meet section...but youll have to be a meber to post. Theres a rolling road day next week and a big ol V6 would be cool on the rollers.

yea, no matter how hot it should leak unless it overheats and blows steam all over the shop.

By the way is there anyone else from down south,Bournemouth,southampton,salisbury etc.

Love to meet up with another V6 owner as ive never ever seen another one on the road.

Im guessing its just the heat mate...

My Willy has been using more water since the heat wave, cos most of the time im just stuck in traffic :mad:

It actually overheated today, luckily i was near a petrol garage tho, so i gave it half hour, and filled it back-up.

Seems to be ok now

I agree with Ben for a change even though hes abit weird! lol Def should not be using coolant! Needs attention under warranty for sure...Oh and welcome

Hi Seany, welcome to the madhouse!!! :p

Theres quite a few of us from Southampton but none of us have a v6 (not for the want of trying thou ;)) there is quite a number of people in the Swindon area as well but no v6s that I am aware of!

Loss of water is a problem. The heat will not affect the water level. Its a closed, pressurised system so evaporation is out of the question.

Air locks are a common occurence on many Rens I have experience of, thus giving a "false" level in the bottle - important particularly in this weather to have efficient cooling systems, so make sure theyre properly bled. Also check the whole circuit is clear and free from leaks and blocks.

Sources of "blind leaks" include pourous radiators and leaking head gaskets. Over pressurisation of the system will indicate possible gasket leakage.

Either way, in this heat, its vital that a cars cooling system (both oil and water) are kept in top condition.

I had a phone call from a customer with a Lotus Carlton, whos auxillary cooling circuit hasnt been working properly for a while - and guess whats happened - the head gasket blew this morning. Will be a whole load of fun since the gaskets and headbolts are no longer available.

Have them looked at boys, a bit sharpish if I were you.

I have just checked it again and ive done nearly 80 miles today and it hasnt moved!!!

Must be me being paranoid,it doesnt actually leak out on to the floor it just seems to be at different levels everytime i check the water bottle.

I dont know,ill keep an eye on it too make sure.

By the way i used to own a willy 2,7 years ago.

Brilliant little car with loads of poke and comfortable too.

Sounds like minor air locks in system - or you being paranoid!

I used to have a Williams 1. I am the same with my toy, paranoid about it!

Your talking to the bloke who cleans his car everyday mate,even my staff(23 roofers have to clean their vans out once a week mate.

I hate dirty vehicles,it reflects on my business.

Althought my business is very new, so the vehicles used are unfrotuantely not that clean most of the time! Just dont get time.

The lotus is ALWAYS clean tho :)

How is your V6 at going over speed bumps and up or down slopes etc, does the bottom ever get scraped? I almost bought one a few weeks ago but as it wasnt fitted with the trackstar I would have needed to keep it in the garage but I have a slope down to it and I am positive that the bottom would have scraped on it. What is the actual clearance under the front of your car?

Yep the fing thing is low and it is no good over speed humps.

As its only a toy for the weekends i dont do town driving in it much so its not too much of a problem.

Its also got a RAC trackstar girlracer so im content with the security of it too.

Its an awesome car,looks and sounds the b0llocks,im not bothering with work today,im going for a nice long drive with the aircon on all day.

Sod getting boiled to death on a roof allday.
