NGK PLUGS! PLEASE READ

  182
strangest weekend. Clio has been running lumpy and missfiring, generally being a pain. Engine light kept coming on and thing kept cutting out and stalling. Found it was firing on second cylinder! ok not a problem! Must need new plugs!

Off i go to car spares on Saturday. "rare plugs" he says and orders them direct from NGK! orders lzkar7a Which are identical plugs to what i take out! Car still runs lumpy but is better!.......

Sunday. Cars still lumpy. Starts to get annoying. Decide that plugs didnt solve problem but helped. Book it into Renault for 2:30 Monday (today). Take it teo Reanult and explain. And tell them to clip it, and i now think that it might be an injector or a faulty coil pack. could they do a diagnosis. Guy phones me an hour later "its your sparks mate, youve put NGK's in it. They are a nightmare in Clios. We'll change them for you, itll be £65!!" ouch i think, but take there word for it, and say yes, but can i keep the old plugs.

GO collect car an hour later, he says its ok on the clip now. and seems to be ok, drove it home tonight and i think its fixed. had anyone else herd about this? perhaps this should be stickied? if a common fault as Renault seemed to believe.

They replaced the plugs with Reanult 82 00 662 185 UV1

5.75 each!!!!!

wtf is he talking about, some of the Renault branded plugs ARE NGK plugs

also NGK's id say are the preferred make of plug on here to replace with, and look how many members this place has, with some very technical people aswell

i will check tomorrow to see what brand 82 00 662 185 actually are

IIRC they are Champion plugs Brun.

The wee 1.2 16v came with them.

But as said ive never heard of NGK being a problem in this engine at all. First thing we did when i got my 1.2 was change the Champions for NGKs....and have stuck to NGK ever since.

Any problems that have occured have always been the bloody coil pack on this engine. I went thru 3 of them and also TDC sensor on the same engine.

  Lots of Alfas
I think Renault use differnt ones for the 1.2 16v depending on the year, if you put in the clio 1.2 16v on ngk website it brings up LZKAR7. Its a bit confusing on that engine but I have some info for other mk2 engines:

1.2 8V NGK BKR5 ES
1.4 8V Champion RC10 PYC or YCL
1.4 16V Bosch RFC50 LZ 2E
1.6 8V Bosch RFC50 LZ 2E
1.6 16V Eyquem RFC50 LZ 2E
2.0 16V NGK PFR6E-10

Maybe the guy got a little confused? Wouldnt have thought different brand plugs would make a big difference unless they were completely wrong

  Skoda Fabia vRS
it can sometimes but its very very rare

IIRC some of the Cosworth peeps used to favour a particular Champion plug, but ive always been happy with NGK and they are regarded as a quality brand

I got ripped by renault for a set of plugs cos i was desperate to get them same day and no where stocked the NGK's,£65 sheets they were. Then you take them out the renault box and see NGK written on the side.......so much cheaper else where god knows how they get away with it.....rebranding bast**ds.

The gaps come preset....on NGK's

not on all plugs they dont mate, it depends which type they are, on iridiums and platinums yes, on all others, no
