Hi All, Posted up on the 197/200 Facebook Group but thought id post here as well.
Purchased my 2010 RS 200 a few weeks back, as soon as i purchased it and drove it home, it didnt want to restart. Was sent back to the seller who replaced the starter motor, and has been fine since.
Initially i checked fuses and all seemed ok, and after some guidance from facebook, we decided to bump start it which got it running, closing out any pointers to a crank position sensor.
On Tuesday, similar story, went to start it after work, and it would not start. Much to the ammusement of the JLR work car park, i bump started it in the car park, and once started was fine. Drove it home and ever since ive been checking what could be going on. It did fire up, and i was able to drive it to the post office and back, when i got back i purposefully stalled it, and then it would not start again. So ive been puzzled all afternoon.
Probably should point out mods, its got a toyosport manifold, as well as an ITG intake, polybushed mounts etc. It currently doesnt have the starter motor heatshield on it, thats on order from someone breaking a car.
- So far, ive checked fuses again, and all seems well.
- Ive measured the voltage at the battery around 12.5v, and then 14.1v when i bump start it. Its on trickle charge now but i dont think this is a battery related fault.
- Ive checked the neutral gearbox switch, which when in first with the clutch out, will show a message on the dash saying "select neutral".
- The ignition comes on when the foot is on the brake, fuel level shows, dash lights up and closes out all the lights one by one.
- Its not showing any major fault codes, only one for the decat manifold
- Its got an airbag light on, due to aftermarket fitment of some yellowdot seats
- Starter motor looks new, has been working for 4 weeks ish, the old starter is in the garage.
Now this is the weird bit:
- only sometimes, but if i select 4th, or 6th, or 1st, or 2nd when the car is in its initial ignition on stage, it will fire up, will crank fine and is "on the button", no hesitancy.
Rest of the time, its a bump start job, and its almost like there is a sensor blocking the igniter for powering up the solenoid or a hidden block to do with the gearbox. The starter clearly works, but something is causing it to not want too.
Has anyone else had anything remotely close to this? My job tomorrow will be pulling the intake off, and having a look to see where the igniter wires come from and go too. Ill do some digging as to if there are any gearbox sensors that might be at play, but with it knowning its not in neutral and showing the message when starting in gear, i would assume this is working correctly else it would be showing that all the time?
Many thanks to anyone that can help with this french electric wizardry.
