No Frickin Stripes

  Yaris Hybrid

I ordered my car in Racing Blue with Competition Stripes at the end of June. Delivery would therefore not have been until October (how feckin batty is a three month lead time for a 5 year old designed car that falls apart after a few thousand miles).

Anyway Renault contacted my online agent today to say that they could not do stripes!!! WTF!!! This car isnt going to be built until after the factory reopens surely? They advertise something that they cannot supply and how many months is it since they first showed this colour to the press?

I have changed the order to Titanium now but I bet this change will put me back down to the bottom of the queue. Sod this I am so tempted to order a CTR instead...

I had the same lead time last year when I ordered my 172. Took untill 17th of October for it to be delivered. The dealer must have known this but still put september delivery on the form.

Trouble is I have to sell my current car. The person buying it needs it immediately and so is lending me his worthless old banger until I get the 182. Thing is the MOT on the banger runs out early/mid October and it aint gonna pass without £££££s so this leaves me with a major problem!!! Also I dont wanna be driving this rusty old deathtrap for a quarter of a year!!!

This is why I am wondering if I could get a Type R in August or September if I order now....

Was in Honda in Kendal last Thursday, they have an 03 CTR in silver with about 2,200 miles on was 12 months old on 2nd July with a S/S exhaust on for £15,200 but would do it for £14,750 with no part exchange....this is a bargin I thought...but dont want to part with the Williams just yet.

I can get the phone number if your interested.

It depends on the colour of the CTR toypop. Grey is in demand and takes a while, black and silver not so long. Not sure about Red as I had no interest in that.

Yeah...they take longer to go round the test track, hence the longer waiting list! ;)

Id go for red and wouldnt bother with any extras like foglights etc. No point loading the car up with AC as its just more weight and less performance.

Am only interested in brand new model though same as with Clio as these things get driven into the ground by boy racers.

What is the lead time of the Black and Silver Lee? I am sure red would be about the same.

I am calming down a bit now and might be able to work some way around this so I can still go for the Clio but being dumped back to the bottom of the queue has left a nasty taste in my mouth. Like I said its bleedin ridiculous having such a wait for something that aint even that special.

To be honest I dont know anymore Toypop. It was a good few months back when I went and took a look at the new facelift model. I still couldnt bring myself to buy one though.

I was told that if I wanted silver I could have the un registered car in the showroom, Cosmic Grey was 10 weeks I think!!

At the time they had plenty of Silver coming over but everyone was ordering Cosmic greey.

Toypop - have you tried having a word with your reno dealer about a courtesy car to fil in the gap between your MOT expiry and delivery date? Given the faff youve been through, surely theyd be accomodating..

I was in a very similar situation myself recently, my mate loaned me his m-reg astra estate (white, with roof-racks) which was very kind, as it gave me wheels to get around in. It was a tad unfortunate then, when some bird ran into the back of it, writing hers off and, as i was only 3rd party, i may not be able to claim!! You are not alone. Luckily, my mate has a sense of humour and were doing our best to settle it privately.. groan.

Outside work is my 182, its a week old on Thurs. And trust me, i love it! And it was worth every minute of the 12 week wait since i ordered.. :)

Alas I am buying online and not going through the main Renault dealer (who could match the online price but not the APR) although the car is being sourced through an undisclosed Renault dealer.

If I have a problem like yours I guess I could find someone with an old banger that had some MOT that would let me have it for a hundred notes or something.

But if I could be driving a new Type R sometime in mid August that doesnt half seem more attractive given that the alternative is picking up a Clio in cold rainy mucky October and spending its first 6 months driving in filthy weather conditions....

I cant believe your all interested in a people carrier looky likey. The CTR maybe well built and hav an excellent gear box but the 182 is in a different league when you have owned as many renaults as me you come to accept there little traits however at no point do they detract from the grin you get from driving them the 182 should appeal to a differnt person than the CTR people how are contemplating which they want. Trackday feel and grin factor or Pipe and slippers comfort fast cruiser.

This is going to be my third Clio and I never had a single problem with my previous two so I hope this new one will have the sort of reliability that the CTR definitely will.

Just been on the CTR forums and read that apparently Honda have stopped taking orders on CTRs for a few months as they were getting a bit too common? If thats true then I guess I am sticking with the Clio which IMO is quicker and I think in everyones opinion offers more car for the money. Just seems silly waiting so long for a Clio. Renault must be daft because they are losing potential customers to the 182s rivals as people wont wait that long. If they have such a large queue of potential buyers they should be expanding production and not shutting the frickin factory for a month duh.

You have to admit though, Renault are pretty lame given that many months after they started showing off the gordini colour scheme you still cant buy one. It must have been three months ago at least that it appeared and they cant fit them to a car due to be delivered three months from now?!?! 6 months!?!?!

i personally think that it is good that you have wait a while for a 182, its like the mini, they restricted supply on that and it kept residuals high so could have a good effect on the clio and help its residuals.

Why not just buy the racing blue without the stripes, they can be added at any time and for much cheaper than renault can offer. You wouldnt be able to tell the difference, its not as if they are hard to match, its just two white stripes?

Why not wait for the racing blue without the stripes as that is obviously the the colour you want, there no point in changing the colour as ou wont get it any quicker!

Your racing blue on its own looks sweet....after 5 hours with Zymol!!!

Coming from owning a black car I cant be arsed with all that anymore so perhaps having to move to titanium is a blessing in disguise!

In fairness you can see in an old thread that I was torn between titanium and blue at the time I placed the order anyway.

Ive had plenty of mates saying they would fit stripes for around £50. The agreement says that I am not allowed to modify the car and I will probably hand it back after 28 months and yes I could pull them off but Ive heard the glue is hard to remove and it could leave marks where one bit of paint has been exposed to the sun and the other hasnt. With all that in mind I just said yeah I will have the Titanium paint with money I am saving on the stripes. With the mindless vandalism around my area I cant really get away with a car that attracts attention anyway!

Well toypop, I walked in the showroom at Linningtons Portsmouth and bought a Racing Blue 182 there and then. They ahd it in the showroom with Comp Stripes on. I had them taken off....They now have another one a a Demo with Comp Stripes.

**Beware though..I have brown spots all over my car that Renault cannot get rid of..they are under the High Gloss Lacquer, Renault have had it into the body shop for a full polish and still cannot get rid of them.** I will keep you updated!!

thats fair enough mate, thats the reason i havent got the stripes because of the attention.

It was only this week that i realised how good the zymol was when i came to wash my car, as i was going it it looked as if i was waxing it again for the first time as the car beaded perfectly and was stunning even before the chamois, i am well impressed, the wax coating seems to last a long time with very good effect. Was definitely worth all the hard work. the dirt just glided off and even the flies werent a problem like they normally are!
