No grip when wet

When its been raining, my car seems to have absolutely no grip when going round corners...

Im currently rolling on Toyo Proxes with plenty of tread left so its not like they're budgets or bald. Are them tyres just s**t in the wet?

In my 1.2 I had Continental Tyres all round and it took corners a hell of alot better in the wet than the 172 atm.

are they the r888`s if so they are know for having f**k all grip in the wet. ive got contisports on mine and they are quite good in the wet.

yes its the tyres i found that out on saturday first time i tried them in the wet went skidding into a railing smashed the front and bent my rear axle :(

but they are quite good in the dry, the cheap tyres i had before the proxes with hardly any tread on them gripped better though!

Edit: if its the T1-R's your t alking about

Toyo proxes driven hard on dry roads = awesome
Toyo proxes driven hard on wet roads = crash

I should know I have them, it is just how they are! I knew this before I bought them but wasn't to concerned as I never push my car in the wet anyway and they are perfectly adequate for normal driving.

No matter what tyre when it's been hot and dry like it has the diesel will rise to the surface in the rain and make it 10x as slippery.

Mine's like it too.

was wondering about greasy roads, but don't think it's been hot enough for long enough yet (not here, anyway)

some tyres are just noticeably poorer in the wet than the dry; could try reducing pressures, or attack speed:star:

Toyos = s**t in wet.

Honestly, I had some and they were total crap. I'm always running round slagging them off. Bin them off.

Ahh right!! I think it is the T1-R's that are on atm... I think once these go, ill go back to the continentals!

Kinda s**t me up though, they are terrible in the wet. I havent been driving fast, and its been sliding!

last time i buy toyo t1-rs again to be honest, just waiting for them to go bald now so i can get some new shoes - thinking towards the Hankook evo ones that are so highly rated (cant afford PE2's)

Also had the displeasure of experiencing T1-Rs in the wet. Brilliant in the dry but a spot of rain and all the grip goes. When I had continentals on my other cup they were really good in all conditions, the PE2s on this car are better though.

wheelspin is guna happen in the wet tho, just got to drive within the cars capabilitys in the said weather.

i had a 294bhp starlet gt (amongst other fast fwd cars),didnt matter how good the tyres are they will spin in the wet,...just a typical fwd car.

uniroyal rainsports used to be amazing in the wet and pretty excellent in the dry. They are now expensive though and not worth the wonga. shame

Im not wheel spinning, its just sliding round every corner when wet!

Soften pressures off a little, drive more conservatively ;)
Dont get 40mpg in a 172 gunning it everywhere ;)
Even going around a slight corner doing 20mph (which you could easily hit double that if not more if you wanted to), I was getting some sliding action!

i would run 28 on the front see if you get any better grip, i personally didnt think they were that bad and i ran them for 15k easily

I didn't find them too bad at all..... I'm one of the few that don't understand the hype with PE2's but then again I personally rate Kumho Ecsta Sports so my 2 pence ain't worth much on here.

It really does seem to be a personal preference thing. I hated the Vredestines(sp) that were on my car originally, yet some people rated them highly.

i thought t1r's were pretty crap, they seemed wobbly in the dry and poor it the wet. after adding more camber they seemed less wobbly. but just drove within their capabilites i survived the winter on them. just dont go driving like a c**k

I drive quite good anyway... Ive only just been able to afford a 172, last thing that I wanna do is smash it up a few months later lol ;)

Will have to go back to the Conti's when these go bald!

I had T1R's on my Fiesta ZS and they were always nice and grippy in the wet too. Most be the extra power of the Clio. Could also be the roads being a bit slippery, I nearly papped myself yesterday when the back end kicked out and I'm running PE2's atm.

I know you nsay they are not but they are a budget tyre imo.

They are just above nexan (budget) imo.

I wouldn't have them on my car.

The only thing keeping you in contact with the road. You buy what's needed.

If they are no good in the wet then they are no good in this country as a daily tyre. It's hardly a tropical climate here!

i think its just that you have been used to driving around in the dry for a few weeks and when it rains its easliy forgoten how the car grips. as said all the fluids cars leak in the dry sit on top on the rain water and make greasy as fcuk!!!!

I personal favourites are the Hankook V12's atm, dry grip is amazing and wet is rather impressive, although I wouldn't even risk driving like a nutter in the wet regardless of what tyres I run, WAY to risky
