I'd check the wiring.
It fails where the wires connect into the tailgate at the top, was a common fault on MK1 clios.
if you can, check for a connection between wires in the tailgate and wires in the car/roof. You won't be able to see the cores frayed in the wires from visual inspection alone.
Not sure how much that piece of loom will be but could be sourced from any MK2 clio I should imagine.
