No spark from coilpack?

Car went lumpy again so while i got a chance when it was lumpy pulled out the ht leads, 1 and 3 had no spark is so is that a coilpack or spark plug problem??

Tried a new coil pack and no spark from it either when taking off the ht leads.

always best to start with the cheepest..sparks, ht's, then coilpack.

how did u know 1 and 3 had no spark, coz my mums car is lumpy instead of paying renault £150 to change the coil i decide i'll do it myself? becuase the coil is only £50

thanks Billy and pinky i'll try sparks then ht's if that doesnt help, was easier to change the coilpack in 5 mins than cracking off the plenum. cobra248 if you take off the HT leads from the coilpack... (provided its that kind of pack) then you will see hear the difference in engine note (struggling engine) if it is working fine, no change if its broken. If you are going to do this be careful not to shock yourself!!lol

ok replaced the spark plugs , still no joy. lumpy as hell and whats bugging me most is that when i pull ht lead 2 and 3 out of the coilpack theres no spark?!?

I have a spare set of renault leads and a coilpack. It'l probs be coilpack.

I might even sell my pretty blue magnecor ones

coil pack was changed mate so isnt that, leads possibly, going to try get a hold of a set in a bit see if it makes any difference

Well id put it on the leads arching out on the body somewhere.

if i was getting a spark from the coil pack on 2 + 3 then i would say the same, but the fact theres no spark at all on those two stumps me

it would not run if two leads from coil were not sparking.

Is the engine a 'wasted spark' type? Normally these fire in pairs 1+4 and 2+3 - firing twice per cycle (once after the compression stroke and once after the exhaust stroke). If the engine is wasted spark, suspect the wiring to the coil pack. Does the coil pack have two input connectors?

its a ph2 172 engine fred, stripped everything down one by one and it seems many things have gone at once, the lambda went, HT leads have been arcing out but no damage to ecu i hope. doesnt seem to be any power going to injector 2 so thats what im tracing now, sounds electrical. Im hoping theres just a break in the wire somewhere and its not an ecu problem

Fixed!! loose connection to fuel injector 3
