Noisy engine and running problems

Hello,ive just picked up my new 2000 Xplate 172 from Kent.Ive driven it back to Milton keynes,came off the motorway and it started playing up.Best way to describe it,its as its running out of fuel,and trying to die and spluttering if i give it a bit of stick,fuel levels fine.Also when i got home,it seems to be a bit noisy from the top end.When i picked it up i had to top the water up,its been parked up for a couple of months,was wondering if its the water pump leaking/noisy?Where are they located?Sorry for all the questions,but im new to Clios :S

Does the car rev freely until you put load on the engine? Foot to the floor in 5th and it really splutters away? If so then it's a misfire.

Hello,yeah thats right.If i gently feed the power back in its not too bad.Will try putting it in 5th next time i drive it and see what it does,cheers

Had it at a local Renault specialist,as didnt want to drive it far.After diagnosing it,they found it was the VVT,and would have cost over £1300 to fix,with all bits and pieces.Unfortunately,i had to sell it in the local auction tonight as couldnt justify spending that.Back to the drawing board now!

Surely, there are very few things on the car that would cost that much?

That doesn't sound right.

The VVT is one valve and a dephaser. The dephaser fix is around 500 including all of the belts etc and i cannot imagine the valve costing that much.

I know,i know.Couldnt drive it far and stupidly believed what the garage told me.I may get it back yet,as i know the trader who bought it,hopefully will want to offload it for what he paid for it,due to the rattle.If not ive seen a few in my budget
