non clio - clutch

my vans clutch is doing weird things, its a cable clutch set up thingy, twice now it just refused to get in gear from a standstill. although i leave it. come back 10 mins later and works as though nothing has happened, currently still going fine, real smooth gearchanges, no crunches, whining nothing,

any ideas?

Does it go in gear with the clutch down (stupid I know)

Is it only when the engine hot or cold?

Is the cable stiffer?

Can you get in in 2nd etc.

no gears including reverese, went into gear without ignition on.

once it was warm and the other time cold when it didnt work, cable is fine, feel of the clutch is very smooth still, biting point hasnt changed either

Is this with the engine running or not?
