Engine mods on even a 2.0 1*2 is a pointless venture unless your willing to throw a serious amount of cash at it.

Cubic Capacity is king

Remap and decat on my dci is far from pointless. The reason I'm asking is because not many people do but when they do they sometimes go to town with it and I wanna see

But seriously there isnt really any point doing engine mods unless you sticking a Turbo, S/C or TB's on, and even then on a non sport is it worth it??
Think if i had a non-sport or a sport i would be putting some coilovers on, (which i dont need to as i have a Trophy), and some decent disks and pads + braided lines, (which the Trophy is getting next week :) ).
Ive seen a good set up 1.6, i.e. good suspension and brakes, keep up with a 172 on a track no probs.
As for looks im always in the opinion of keep it standard, sleeper.

The 12.2s quarter miles your running in the DC-Aye-Thatll-be-right?

Who said anything about quarter miles I couldn't give a fook bout that. I asked a simple question, I didn't ask for stupid sarcastic comments you f**king sigh. To danel no that wasn't aggressive just asking.

Yes I know there isn't much point some people do though and its interesting to see, and its nice to see how some people have tidied up their engine bays

FLOL!! You?? Not aggressive??

Too much sugar in your diet son.

Just winds me up I'm only asking I would never bung a bigger turbo or anything stupid like that but some people do and its nice to see what they have done and how much effort it involves. Its not like I'm asking if I should do things like it. I just know some people do and and would like to see it

Tbh, sarcasm is all i can offer you at this time of night/morning dependant on how many sugars you take in your tea.

If you were closer id offer you a back rub and a rendition of Mandy by Barry Manilow if your that way inclined.

Now if there were a 1400, 1600 or 1800 Clio that had a short stroke engine it could make a good base for a competition car...I'm clueless when it comes to Clio bore vs. stroke. A 1400 revving to 9krpm on throttle bodies would be great...but if it's got a long stroke it's not going to happen :(

Sounds good any pics engine bay with induction kit on and what not? Have you manage to place the induction in a decent place without it getting too much heatsoak? I really struggled with mine

I always think that unless you have a direct air feed i.e a false fog/spot light then heatsoak is always going to be an issue...?

I have one one my 106 GTi and tbh having not had it RR or anything theres no way to tell? Sure it makes it sound nice but real world gains...?

Mine was on and off the rollers a lot and yep I have two cold air feeds and the cones goes right down behind the headlight, dci's have restrictive air feeds anyway so any change usually helps, not much but every little helps

What does your DCi book at and what (if any) gains were made or lost mate?

Starts at 80 from factory but rr'd at 78 remapped to 115, then with the induction and decat 122bhp just under 2 from the induction kit so nothing to shout about just felt better.with heatsoak it was loosing 1 or 2hp

I gather this is the 1.5 DCi engine variant? Thats fair gains there, you generally find that diesels across the board respond better to remaps regarding torque and mid range acceleration.

Yep just the 1.5dci lump the good things is the torque and the bhp doesn't just sharply peak then fall they are pretty consistent throughout the rev range that's why even at 80bhp the seem fairly nippy.

Shame the clutch can't handle much more torque otherwise bigger injectors and turbo would be nice as you can pick both up cheap. Bought a focus tdci intercooler last week for a tenner so may put that on soon, might look after the turbo better

Very good mate, theres always going to be limitations as to what can be done.

My old boys a mechanic/engineer and as i said the same as you he always said theres no substitute for cubic capcity.

Theres eye for individuality though ;)

Your old man is right mate but weight, brakes and suspension is also helpfull I got front and rear strut brace, combrake top mounts eibachs, poly bushes up front for wishbones and anit roll bar and black diamond brakes. Also took spare tyre, tools and isofix bar out the back now my little tractor punches quite abit above its weight. At the moment I'm finishing a triumph stag 3.0 v8 s**t performance tho but its 1972 and not really for performance sounds the muts nuts tho!!!

Fair play mate sounds like you know what your doing :D

I only try mate, its the group 4 insurance, the £35 a year road tax and 65MPG which makes it worthwhile throwing money at it till next april and 320d or 325 are possible

my dci is going in for an RS Tuning remap, 130bhp & 190lb/ft, more if i can get an uprated clutch.

that will make it a VERY capable car considering £35 a year roadtax, £300 a year insurance fully comp and 55mpg!
