C Clarkie172 Car 2005 Impreza WRX STI Mar 31, 2005 #9 ye main question is money....u can get mk2s for the price of a nice mk1?? common faults are rattles everywhere mate. after all theyre french! and exhaust rattling seems quite common if standard? id try and buy standard with low miles. but if after 36k make sure its had proper service on 36k and stamped

L Lagerlout Car VaVa Mar 31, 2005 #12 Get a mk2. They look better, handle better, are just as fast and have nicer interiors.
C Clarkie172 Car 2005 Impreza WRX STI Mar 31, 2005 #14 but u 2 r bias! get a mk1 lol. both mint cars, mk2 are newer n more modern looking,however mk1s are a lot less common....and quicker on paper,and lighter!

JayGTT Car EVO VII Mar 31, 2005 #15 mine dont rattle, still going strong with 77k on the clock. mk 1 172 all the way !!!
M Mark_Petty Mar 31, 2005 #16 I just bought a Mk1 172 its got 30k on the clock and totally standard and I love it, best move ive done. If you can find a minter go for it. Unfortunatley there arent many around if you are looking for a mk1 172. Just dont rush in to it take your time and eventually a decent 1 will turn up. Mine looks like Clarkie172s but standard

A ANiMOSiTY Apr 1, 2005 #18 Im actually living in South Africa, so that throws a lot of your deals out the window unfortunately... A decent 2001 MK1 will cost about ZAR 85 000. The MK2s are more expensive... Is there anything I should be careful of?? Also, what have any of you guys raced and beaten with your 172???

G George16v Car Suzuki SV1000S Apr 1, 2005 #19 Civic type-r, Clio 182, clio Cup, Golf 1.8T (with 50bhp Nos), Clio 16v, Depends on the situation though mate, and I dont think any of us are running standard 172s. They are basically a v fast car for the money and in my opinion you wont find a more exciting drive for the money. I have considered parting with mine a few times but have not found a car to replace it - that is half as fun!!
