North East Cam Belt Change

  Clio 172 Cup
All the specialists down south are doing offer at the moment, if I was lucky enough to be close enough it would be £280 for belts sorted.

It's going to cost me over £500 here, unless one of you lot know of any one doing a good deal?

172 Cup willing to travel upto 100 miles from Newcastle upon Tyne.

;)

I paid £520 from Mickleton Services, (Hutchie), for my Trophy, so i would imagine the cup would be less. Drop him a PM.

Birchdown would be within 100 miles surely?

Only place to go in my opinion.

  None
I can strongly recommend RS Murray in leeds, just had mine done there and it's a top notch job, mine was £570 for both belts but the 172 cup should be cheaper.

And it's only 99.7 miles from you ;)

  Williams 3
Britannia Garage in Cleadon. I've taken all my cars there, including my VXT when I had it.

Cheap as chips, and they recently did all of my belts for about £140ish (I supplied the belts/water pump etc) on my 172 Cup.

Mickleton was quite a good price tbh, your cup is similar to a 1.6 so I think the price was about £310 or so IIRC.

Mendal motors did mine, Very good work.

Just had a good quote from them for my timing belt and aux belt, not sure what exactly it includes with tensioners etc, but competitive nonetheless - anyone else recommend them?

  172 & LCR
I've got a m8 at Benfield motors that'll do it on a Sat afternoon.
Parts will cost you over £300 for good quality gates timing belt kit aux belt kit then water pump that you need to do while your in their then labour on top anyone doing this for less than £500 parts n labour aint using good quality items.

I thought the general feeling is that the water pumps rarely fail and so you dont have to do them out of caution when the belt is off?

BTW I'm waiting to hear back what parts they use before comitting anyway.

  172 & LCR
Most common problem on 172 is the aux belt comes off tangles behind crank pulley rips timing belt off bends valves n sometimes wrecks complete engine, water pump is ran by aux belt it'll cost you an extra £35 for the pump if your old pump bearing fails at speed it'll throw aux belt off as explained earlier not good.
Hope this helps.

  Mk1 Clio F4R'd
TW & S Barker in Newcastle. They don't have any offers on, but they are renault specialists. Haven't used them yet, but heard nothing but good things. Very nice guys and know what they are talking about.

Go down to Metro Radio Arena, take a left at the mini round about and go down the road and on your right.
