not good.....

..... it looks like i've given in

after searching high and low for a car that would be suitable for my driving style and requirements i've hit a stumbling block :dapprove:

every car i've looked at has either been too bland in terms of appearance or lacking feedback

it's come to the point, where i think it's going to be a RS clio

i know i vowed never to buy another renault, try and move myself away from the small hatch market etc etc. but as far as what the mk2 172 has to offer for the price you pay, it's currenty sitting on top of the pile for possible buys

i don't know of any other car that i could possibly buy that offers as much as the clio :dapprove:

damn, i just can't escape

so soon to be wanted will be a 2003 172, Red/Blue, Lowish Mileage, Excellent Condition (Standard) all at a good price

Ali - blue is the colour, but the flame red looks so nice

would be too difficult to choose if i had an example of each colour in the same condition and mileage

i'd say blue is my favourite so far

you know as well as i do, my 1.2 was an amazing piece of kit, it refused to break no matter what i done to it :(

I remember you practising handbrake turns in it!

The flame reds lovely; next best colour to Mondial Blue imo.
debateable, some of us, don't actualy like mondial, as strong as it is, it's not quite attractive enough for many

After all the things you've said too Bryan..... ;)

The Clio certainly lacks in some areas, but one thing it stands head and shoulders above the rest is value for money. £6000 will pick you up an 03 import mk2 172 in good nick with average miles. They were a bargain new - they're a f**king steal now!!

If your after something different but offers performance and character - how about a Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo - prices are making it a good value performance purchase - in standard guise it would off 220bhp and as with most reports from those not in the know - maintenance cost is not a high as some would suggest nor problems - they as with all performance cars need to be maintained correctly.

I have written a buyers guide that may be of interest - http://www.fccuk.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=256230&an=0&page=0#Post256230 we have a few guys that run a Clio and a Coupe and a few that have moved from the Clio to the Coupe.

Here is a pic of my last Coupe -

http://www.cliosport.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=606&stc=1

it was modified - around the 300bhp at only 1 bar of boost, but it was time to let the misses have her turn with a car she wants so sold it and gave the money to her to go out get some thing - she returned with a phase 2 172, 2002 with 16000 miles for reasonable price of £7000 - which left some cash over from the Coupe sale - winners all round.

So that’s how I have ended up on the Clio Sport forum.

Bryan, get a mk1 172, so much better than the mk2's
if i liked the look of the interior and exterior fred, i probably would, but the mk2 looks far better inside and out IMO

hanny - having previously driven the coop turbo, it just didn't do anything for me, it was quick i'll give it that much, but IMO it felt like a barge
