o/s driveshaft fitting issues?

Hi all

Currently changing the o/s driveshaft on a 172 ph1, got the old one out no problems, but no matter what I do I cant get the new one to fit, the ball joint bolts are a mile away! Am I doing something wrong??

Has it butted up all the way to the gearbox?

yeah its fully home at the gearbox end
