O2: Can I get out of my cotract if...

  Clio 197
I specifically joined O2 because calls to 0845/0870 numbers came out of my free minutes.

That way I can contact my bank etc without being charged.

I've received a text warning me that from mid-september, such calls will be chargeable.

I've recently upgraded my handset, thus I have a contract with them that will run for another 10 months.

Do I have grounds to end my contract early?

In some cases a change of terms means you can leave your current contract.
A few years ago people managed this with tmobile, it cost them a fortune.

You need to read the t&c's

I didn't get a text but interesting to know as I have recently taken out a new contract with them, was there a reason why ?

Yes you can, there's loads of details about it on HUD and MSE atm.

I've put a letter together so if anyone is interested in seeing a copy (it refers to the correct parts of the T&C) let me know your email address.

You will proably have to return your phone, but if you can leave using that section then a PAC code must be provided.

Apparently they have not been asking for the phones back, both o2 and CPW.

I've asked for my PAC too so I can switch my number but anyone wanting to cancel their contract will have to be quick else they will end up having to pay in October too!

Would they actually ask for the phone back though?

Must be honest to go from being free to now costing 20p a minute is a fking joke!

You can view them here - www.o2.co.uk/specialnumbers

I'll be looking to jump ship too especially if I get to keep my handset. Are they any good deals around at the moment?

Only reason I upgraded and stayed with O2 was because of the inclusive 08 numbers. I would have gone with Orange otherwise (better coverage at home).

If I cancel can I keep my number?

Do I just phone up, say I'd like to cancel due to the 08 increase, and can I have my PAC code, then find a deal on ornage or something and give them my Pac?

id imagine it would be quite difficult to get out of, death apparently isnt even a good enough reason for vodaphone who made it the most hard work to cancel my mums contract when she died!

They can make it difficult but they can't refuse to let you cancel as it's in the T&C's. I think most people phoning up got given incentives to stay (new phone, reduced contract charge, etc.) or was told that they have to have used the numbers a 'reasonable' number of times. Cancelling has to be done in writting anyway so as far as I see there is no point in even calling as they don't have a leg to stand on. I'll just be sending off the letter, waiting for confirmation, then ordering a new phone. SIMPLE :)

I only have 2 months left on my contract so it's probably not worth me phoning them to cancel. There are currently no phones I actually want and I doubt there will be until my renewal is due.

Either put in the 0870/0845 number or the company name and you get a freephone or geographical number. I think 0800 numbers are chargeable on mobiles, but are free from landlines so no problem.

I've been using it for a few years and only once have I had not been able to find a number I wanted.
