E92 M3,172 track car
The tyres on my Turinis are ever so slightly bald so I decided to swap back to my standard 172 wheels until I have my new tyres fitted this week.
The first thing I noticed after driving was that the steering is nowhere near as direct. I could drive in a straight line with the Turinis fitted and swerve slowly left and right and the car would go where I pointed it, the standard wheels just don't seem to behave in the same fashion and the steering feels slightly inert when central.
Secondly, the car does not feel as composed at speed when cornering. You do not feel as attached as you do with the Turinis on and again, the car feels a little inert.
Finally, the ride is much better over poor surfaces. The car is lowered on Apex -40's, over some rough surfaces it feels as though the wishbones are going to bend with Turinis fitted. This is not the case with the standard wheels. The ride just isn't as crashy. I know there was a debate over wheel mass a couple of weeks ago which may be proved by the effects seen here.
In short, Turinis are the better wheel and not just because they look better, though I am liking my 172 back on standard rims at the moment.
