OCR Software

  Revels Mum & Sister
I have a client that was sold/leased a large Canon Photocopier which also provides scanning functions. It has a TWAIN driver so can be used with any scanning program. They were sold down the river a bit and were told it could do this out the box, which they can to some extent i.e they can scan an image into a Word file and save it.

But they want OCR functionality, which the software DOESNT provide like they were told.

So basically has anyone used any OCR software that is pretty accurate when scanning a typed document?

Microsoft office software can do it fairly well.

"Microsoft Office Document Imaging" is the application name in the office tools section.

Will give it a crack. I assume this ISNT installed by default with the Office package it needs to be added using the disk?

I think it might be installed as standard.... it was in the image that I put on my PC so could not say for sure.

Thanks guys. The have a massive Canon. They were going to shell out £5K for some software to do this!!!!! But I noticed it comes with a TWAIN driver.

if they are wanting to do more professional document management then id invest in proper software but for doing odd bits of ocr then omnipage will do the job

I dont think they are going to be a MASSIVE amount. Basically they want to from time to time to scan a document and then file it away into there archive. They say not often but knowing them in a months time they will be going hardcore with it.

Need to find some trial versions of these software packages.
