Odd brake light problem

  Mk5 golf gti
ok so today i fitted ph2 lights to my phase 1, and they all wired up correctly
i was sent them off a meber on here, and the bulb holders were corroded shockingly bad and they wouldnt work

cleaned them up an changed the bulbs and now they work

but...

when the sidelights are on and you press the brake the left sidelight goes out and the brake doesnt come on :S

i thought it could be the bulb as they are twin filament, but they both work individually but not together

any ideas?? or should i clean them up again as there could be a cross connection or something??

as this bulb in particular was stuck in it was so corroded so cleaned up an replaced bulb

Sounds like a backfeeding earth... meaning they're sharing a common ground which isn't enough to run both units. Check the earths matey and if needs be, for testing purposes, run a dedicated earth direct to the bodywork.
