Off to K Tec Tomorrow

Hi all im new here just bought a 03 Cup, ive been heavily into Racing Pumas for five years but needed a new direction and for the money nothing can touch the Cup, its taken me two weeks to get used to the very responsive throttle pedal, anyway im off to K Tec tomorrow to chat with the guys there, hope its worth the hour and a half drive.

Nothing wrong with a hairdressers car!

Racing Pumas are the nuts, wide archs, 17s, pumped up engine. Very ltd as well.

yes but a hair dressers car with attitude, not the quickest in a straight line, but will destroy most anything on the road through the twisty stuff, handling is far superior to aything else ive ever had the pleasure of driving

IMHO it looks more agressive than the clio too, just needed to sit lower to the ground

engine is highly tuneable, as withmost ford engines, is left in a low state of tune and heavily restricted

they are far better than you would ever think, IMHO they are stronger and more versatile than any renault clio engine

remember you own a clio 1.2, i know what id rather own (both looks and performance)

The ford zetec engine is actually a very good engine.

Holds up to turbo conversions better than renault engines and responds very well to breathing mods.

Ford have set benchmarks in engines for a long time, dont doubt them. Youll prob be suprised to know that most of the performance engines are de-tuned.

Ford actually instructed Cosworth to knock power down on the Sierra as they didnt think it was PC!

well maybe you should join the puma group then and not waste your time with the sh*tty clios

would be nice to have a bigger engine but you gona pay my insurance?

i would but i dont own a puma, i own an elise, though used to own 2 clios, have got to know so many users on here (originally joined nov 02)

trust me, your insurance would be cheap compared to mine, but we wont go into the reasons for that

point of my posting - the FRP is a better overall package than the Clio 172 IMHO

Just because you like something doesnt make it better. The 172 cup is a very good car but so is the Racing Puma.

Rob33 - you got any pics?

dont get me wrong matt, i love the 172/cup and 182, but for driving pleasure i think the frp has it sewn up

just a complete package

id guess the clio is slightly quicker point to point or on a track, but how often can you safely use 100mph+ on the roads? the frp gives pleasure beyond speed, its just too much fun on b-roads with a very calm nature on a and m roads

Bye the way the Pumas engine was designed by Yamaha, not Ford.

The FRPs engine is almost at its limit tuning wise as the Ford Racing gurus have worked there magic to up the bhp 30 brake already, about 170bhp is the limit without a turbo, the Cup would trash the FRP in a dash, but I need to a little work on the handling department, just needs firming up a bit and sort the camber out, a set of KWs me thinks.

Ive got to get it sorted for spring as Alan at Pumabuild will be doing a trackday at mallory and he wants me to bring the cup to see how it fares against the Fat Pumas

Gotcha, met you a couple of times then. My friend Mike (miketheman2k) had frps 206 and 208, and I went on that parade lap at CasleCombe in the summer. Great laugh.

Welcome to cliosport. ;)

Hi Rob, are you the rob that we always chat to when we went to Pumabuild? Good man, I see youve done the right thing ;)

Seriously though, for all you doubters out there, the FRP is not a fast car on the quarter mile, but thats not what its about. I can honestly say I havent owned a more exciting car (and by that I mean fun, not butthole puckering experience like the v6 on a wet day). The most accurate way of describing the FRP is that its alive. Imagine a clio cup, with more steering feel, quicker steering, more communicative suspension and probably a little more agililty....oh and the brakes, you can almost do endos.

They definitely have their downsides though, the brakes cost about as much a ceramic discs, they rattle more than an old clio and you will struggle to beat and 1.6 focus down the straights. But take it on any B-road and youll realise! oh yeah baby.

They look the nuts,i agree. Down a country lane though or some twistys, dont think it would be gettin away from a valver. unless it was a wet road.

FRPs Times 0-60: 7.81
0-100: 22.92
1/4 mile: 16.35 These times are off my car and were featured in Perfofmance ford mag in August under the Cat Fight Feature.

Pumabuilds RS FRP with 300bhp now, Ive driven it a few times and its awsome, if its wet forget it
;)
