Off to Renault this afternoon...

Im off to Renault Ashford, Kent this afternoon to have a chat about the Trophy, and IF all goes well will be putting an order down.

I have already been offered one for £14,000 without walking through the door, so in my opinion i could probably knock it down further? opinions?

Im going to be taking the 182 out as well, as when i went out in it last time, i wasnt overly impressed, so need to be reassured, and give it a good go.

right just got back...

test drove a 182 "Cup" again - 3 up, and was much better than the Full fat 182 i test drove, really was a better drive for some reason.

NOW, Im in a dilemma, where i havent got a clue what to do!!!

I will have 9k-10k to put down on the car, which would mean only borrowing 4 grand... which will be about £170 a month on a 2 year loan (nationwide) renault is about 12%APR.

Now do i just go for it and buy the trophy. Insurance will be £1100 Fully Comp for me... FULL PAYMENTS AROUND £390 A MONTH

OR do i do this........

Buy a scooby outright, have no money to pay on it spend about 6k-7k on one (decent one) STI 3, Jap import. And pay £1350 a month TPFT?? so FULL PAYMENTS £140 A MONTH

On subject.... I would go for a 182 Cup over a subaru all day, and would probably plump for the Trophy if funds allowed.

the other option is screw renault down on price then ask for their interst free option if they are still doing it. 35% down so put the rest in the bank & draw from it each month 2 meet the payment. You will prob want 2 change the car b4 your funds in the bank run out. The less u put in to a car the better if they are picking up the interest imho

Id probably buy a 172 and not get in any dept personally. Not saying the Tropy or 182 Cup isnt good valve there superb cars but I dont like debt.

A £4~5k Mk1 172 is excellent value you wont loose much more money on it a Trophy or 182 Cup your looking at loosing £4k in a year Id guess.

If your thinking about spending £14K then surely you should consider a Mk1 V6? Take one for a test drive - even though it is marginally slower than a Scoob I bet you prefer it.

Of the other cars youve listed the Scooby would be fastest but not noticeably until you got over 70mph. The 172 and 182 / trophy should be cheaper to run, maintain and insure.

mate has found a well nice 2 year old sti8 with ppp pack on. price of these cars has drop a lot second hand as the new ones come with ppp for free now. theres even a 2 year old one in auto trader for about £11999

Well, basically put it this way........

if i were to get A NEW car i would get the trophy - 3 year warrenty and all that will be lovely, so i wont have any hassle, probably keep it 2 years or so...

IF i got a SECOND HAND CAR it would be the scooby.

So its new or old really...?

well in a way im thinking that a trophy would be a bit more sensible, i would have more money every week, and also, by the time i come to sell it 2 to 3 years, ill be 24ish, ready for a cheaper insurance on a scoob... thats the plan perhaps?

its too hard to compare these two cars as they both do different things...

im tempted to get a scoob and pay off the insurance straight away, and then just have the running costs to live with...

i had a scooby and they are awesome....I had one of the best: wrxt sti type-R (2 door) with loads of mods (382 bhp) VERY VERY expensive on petrol...they hate the motorway and servicing is a b**ch!!



Thats why im getting a clio....most garages can fix em and cheaper on fuel and parts etc and ONE THOUSAND quid cheaper on insurnace!!!

Had a standard UK Scoob for 3 years,NEVER got more than 250-280 miles out of a tank.When thrashed I managed about 9mpg.and as has been mentioned,servicing is every 7500 miles.Tyres are a MINIMUM of two at a time as you must change both tyres on the same axle (should change all four,but at £110-150 a corner for P-Zeros...!)Then you have to add the brake discs and pads.Awesome car by by God it drains the bank.Id have another but wife now drives so got a 182 with all the cup bits.TBH in the dry its as good fun!!Love it.
