That explains why the 10.4.6 update I have just done on my Intel Mac was 100 odd Meg and the Power PC one on my Desktop was 46 meg!

No just handy for a decent version of Messenger as Microsoft are shite to supply mac users, and for bit's of software for things like Road Angels and B2's which will never be ported to work on OS X.

I wont ever be using XP as an everyday system!

TBH its clever marketing by Apple. People will splash out for XP, be offered no support and then after 3 weeks, when their machine is clogged up with spyware, virus' etc will think fcuk this and never use XP again! Genius.

You'd have to be insane to run XP over the Mac OS, though granted, you'd be able to run more games under the windows environment - but why not just buy a Windows machine in the first place?

Wall street liked it, apples share price shot up after the announcement.

The point is that not having an amount of windows compatibility has stopped a lot of people switching to mac, this problem doesn't exist since the release of bootcamp yesterday.

The only piece of software that I need to run on windows is Visual Studio (obviously for windows development). When I need to do dev work I can just boot into windows and get in and out as quickly as possible means that I can limit my time exposed to windows. :)

I sense a macbook pro purchase coming up soon. Now I might be able to convince my boss to buy it for me :)

haha wonder why? if mac's are so brilliant why don't they have a bigger market share?

Thats a retarded statement. You could say if maybach are so good why dont they have a bigger market share? Simple answer is cost. If someone just wants a home computer and have a budget then they'll obviously pick up a cheap PC at the local dixons/pc world/supermarket etc etc rather than fork out £900 for the cheapest imac.

Apple is just apple.

Microsoft were fortunate enough to find themselves in bed with IBM, 2 guys working from their garage were never going to out-muscle IBM, but they did a pretty good job nevertheless.

Steve Jobs being forced out in 85 was a pivital point, after he left lots of bad decisions were made by the CEO & board which ultimately nearly took apple under.

Since he returned he's turned apple around and the mac market share is steadily increasing.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. MACS ARE sh*t

I'll remember that next time my machine hasnt frozen, locked up or crashed for no reason. Or use the time that would have been spent pissing about with antivirus software and spyware removal to ponder that instead. ;)

I must admit since buying a Mac, I only really ever use my PC for linking to the XBox 360 to stream Videos, Music etc. Only really play games on the 360 so the PC has become kinda redundant.

Also now that the Mac Mini's have te Optical Audio out and come with Front row and a remote no need really for media centre IMO.

Great idea about running XP on a MAC though. More than anything I expect Apple did this as a two finger salute at Bill!

I seriously don't see why people have problems with PC and windows. I've been running XP on my PC now for 2 years, OK so I've reinstalled the operating system once, but i can count on one hand the number of times its hung or locked up on me.

I don't run anti-virus, or anti spyware, just SP2 and i've not had a problem yet.

If u get decent hardware in the first place you shouldn't have ANY issues.

hahha loony now whos making retarded statements, who do you think hackers are going to bother with a) a os that is pretty much the backbone of most business (bar linux used on servers) and cover about 75% of the computer market worldwide or b) pretty mac computers used by home and by graphic designers which cover around 15%.... do the math child.

As for mac's lockin up, er, they do? so what r u talking about? it's a difference between computers which are built by the manufacturers for the manufacturers os and a company that built an os designed to be used by any other private manufacturer that can make drivers for it...of course there would be more problems. just need to think about these things don't you?

I didnt suggest the case i dont have to piss about with virus and spyware was unrelated to the number of units owned compared to "PC's" Just another bonus to owning one that i dont.

Mine hasnt, and i know plenty of other people who own them who've never suffered, I cant say the same of "PC's"! At no point have i got into the conversations about manufacturers and software programmers/companies, end result is you suffer more grief with a windows based "PC". I used to have at least one problem a week either at home or work that made me want to set either PC on fire and throw it out of the window. I only have that issue at work now ive got a mac at home.
