oh dear..stuck damper nut/bolt

  Clio 197

i came to change my rear dampers today for some uprated ones, the bottom 18mil bolt came out fine, but the top (16mil head, 20 mil nut) undid fine till it got to the end of the thread now it wont budge , i cant even tighten it bk up cos its solid and i was only using an adjustable on the nut so i dont wanna slip and round the bolt.........what can i do, i just dont want it to snap!

ive soaked it in wd40 for the time being and hopefully getting a 20 mil spanner tommorow, i need it fixed asap cos iv got to get to work on monday

the end of the bolt isnt threaded anyway??? you will struggle to snap the bolt but you could shaft the tread, however if it undid fine until the end maybe try persudaing it back on and checking for any visible damage to the thread....

If you have one id recomend ditching the adjustable for a socket set or atleast spanners.... get some cheap ones from a B&Q or something cos they will be better than a adjustable.

cheers fellas, i could ge tthe bolt off if i wanted i.e by cuttting it etc but the point is i dont want if possible cos it will mena my car will be off the road whilst im trying to locate another bolt, i mean the bolt itself has a 16mil head, bout 10 mil wide, 3 inch long and , a 20 mil nut with it, do ya think there might be a chance at somewhere like B + Q or sumat to get a new un?

I would have thought that at the end of the day all you woudl need is a 75mm M10 bolt. Dont quote me on that, not sure if it has to be up to a certain spec what with holding the suspension. Either that or a reno dealer/local garage might have one floating about.

good chance it would bend... theres a lot os stress on it.

You could source one from renault, its a universal part so id expect them to be able to get it swiftly. however its just as easy to go to the crappy and rob one off any other clio 1 if its a few quid at renault, dont know what to expect it to be.

its not going to be catastrophic if you use a normal bolt and it does bend or shear, its just going to shaft your damping on that corner... bad but not going to hurt you.

Just go to Ren, itll be about a quid and they should have one.

Sounds like your nut is caught on rust from the exposed part of the thread. Have fun lol....oh, use plusgas, its better than WD40 for loosening rusty bits and bobs.

And u get it from a motorfactors before you ask.
