Oh Rich where art thou!!!!!! (or anyone who can help me)

  Broken Diesel Megane :(
Basically tomorrow I am detailing a friend of a friends car. His son decided his paint wasn’t dirty enough and took a stone do the door (Christmas may be cancelled for him). :quiet:

So after meeting him yesterday to examine his sons handywork, I was at least reassured by the fact that they weren’t as deep as I first imagined. Your nail still catches and it is down to the white but it MAY come out. (Though I was told it was a white stone so it could be off the stone)

The rest of the car is covered in medium swirling and light – medium scuffs and scratches. So I will be going over the whole car anyway, but paying particular attention to the door.

Basically I need some advice.

On a car like this, would you do the following;

Wash, clay dry as normal.

Polish with Menzerna Intensive polish on which pad (yellow, white or blue)?

Polish with Menzerna Final Finish on which pad (yellow, white or blue)?

I was then going to polish with a coat of Chemical Guys Slick Mirror Finish Polish (by hand) and maybe scratch x.

A coat of M – Seal or AG EGP

A coat of Natty’s Paste Wax (Red)

A coat of P21s

Then obviously wheels and trims as normal.

The car is a 51 plate, black VW Golf TDi. I will be using a sonus 7424 (?) orbital polisher.

I appreciate any help you can give me, as I would really like to make some sort of difference to this if possible. If I am unable to do anything then the door would have to be resprayed, which in my opinion seems a bit drastic for something that using the right techniques, equipment and products could be saved.

Many Thanks

Would think you might have troubles getting it out. Do you have 4" pads as they will give you a better chance.

Wouldn't give the car a "coat" of Scratch X either - you only use this to address specific areas - but as you are machine polishing you should have done this already.

As said though you should have an intuitive feel if the mark will come out or not, I would start on that area first after washing and see what effect you have.

it did mke a bit of an impact but i feel i could be pissing in the sea.

yeah have 4" pads.

so would a white pad with intensive on the area then step it to a yellow pad if more aggression is needed.

then run over the wole car with white pad and intensive, then back over with final finish.

Scratch does not sound like it will come out to be honest.

VW Paint is fairly hard to correct so for a test panel first but chance are you will need the light cut pad and Intensive Polish.

Scratch X would be a non needed step.

I would do:

Light Cut Pad - Menz IP
Polishing Pad - Menz Final Finish
Finishing Pad - AG SRP
Coat of EGP by hand.

cheers rich.

sorry to be ignorant but which is the light, which is polishing and which is finishing. sorry to sound so thick.

would you omit the mirror finish glaze too?

  106 GTi
Sonus SFX Pads:

Light Cut - Yellow
Polishing - White
Finishing - Blue

If using the EGP, use SRP before it and skip the glaze. If using the M/Seal then use either the Mirror Finish Glaze or Super Resin.

well i just got the mirror glaze so quite keen to use it.

mirror glaze on blue pad then top off with m seal by hand and wax of my preference?

Give it a go then, blue pad.

I seal and wax by hand, you could do the m/seal by finishing pad if you liked.
