Oil and Grease! :S

Whilst in the process of painting my calipers, i thought it would be a good idea to clean the arches and wheel inners, as they haven't been cleaned in the cars 4.5yrs of motoring. First removed drivers side wheel to find this on the back :S

The wheel caked in a really heavy grease/oil!!

With a little investigating, i tried to see where it was coming from, but could find anything??

Heres the back of the brake disc and connecting bits'n'bobs! The grease shows up a little shinny!

Its not coming from the damper or anything like that, but it's a right biatch/impossible to get off!

I had the front brake pads done at renault 20k ago, so it must be recent?

Any ideas where its coming from and should i be worried!

CV joint boot , check to see if the metal clip has snapped . Both of mine did on my 172 and threw grease all over the wheels . I put some thick 8mm cable ties over the clips on my new 182 as soon as i got it just in case .

From that pic i can't even see a clip !

yeah looks like the boot, pack it with grease and use a jubile clip

Technical dumbass here, where is the cv joint?

You see the rubber gaitor , like a concertina , the cv joints inside there . Where its nearest to the abs ring ( the ring with teeth ) the gaitor is flat . There should be a metal clip holding it in place .

Like Vinny says , get some cv joint grease , pack it in and jubilee clip it . It doesn't look split from the pic so it should be ok .

i'm surprised you didnt see it from the front of the wheel, this was mine from the front, impossible to get off lol

Spot on guys, just checked the passenger side and theres a massive clip. I'll be sorting that out ASAP then.
