oil capacity question and haynes manual question

  Clio 172 mk2
I've been looking for a manual for a 172 with no success either.

I think Renault want us to take the cars into their dealerships for even the slightest bit of work.

There no manual as the market i to small.
The normal one covers most of the stuff though there not much more you need.

i dont mean to sound stupid but is the oil change difficult on a 172??

previous car ive just drained oil, smack screwdriver through filter or use a removing chain, then do reverse

on these clios. i cant even see where the oil filter is, havent a clue what size the drain plug is or where it is, and theres all catch tray things under the car isnt there?

Not to difficult, to do the filter you have to remove the injector cover (3 bolts from memory) at the front of the engine. Don't go removing the filter with a screwdriver though get a proper removal tool a screwdriver can smash the internals of the filter and let bits of metal get into the engine damaginf the bores etc.

On the bottom of the sump.
8mm square tool plus you need to use a new washer £1.10 from Renault (or use plumbers tape) to reaseal the sump.

£110 from renault for a washer?

i knew they were extortionate but jees!

think i got an 8mm square from my 106 anyway so thats all good..

does that stupid catch tray thing under the engine have to come off??

pain in the arse!

and is there any point me changing my oil at 20k miles when it will be going for its 24k service soon??
(was last changed at 12k service so it really is due for a change..)

Haynes won't do a manual for the 172 / 182 and they aren't likely to ever do one because its a special edtion clio with not many sales compared to the bog standard clio it wouldn't be worth their while printing one .The haynes manual will cover alot of stuff , bodywork etc... but won't cover things like engine , gearbox , brakes ( brakes are brakes on any car, same principle ) plus the front brakes are off a Laguna .

As to the engine oil , its exactly 4.75 litres , overfilling can damage the engine . I never bother changing the sump plug washer , i just reuse the old one , if its tight enough it won't leak , a bit of ptfe tape on the plug would be okay to use as well .
