Oil change problems....

Well, half an hour of swearing and getting blood on my hands is not my idea of an oil change....


The filter is so stuck on i haven't managed to budge it a mm. Anyone have any tips?

And i don't have a sump plug key ffs. Rant over.

Stab a screwdriver through it and twist; should come off easy then.

Take the sump plug out before you take the filter off, or it'll get messy.

Assuming you've taken the fuel rail guard off 1st?

and be careful when ya take out the filter.. oil can leak all down the front of the engine

I wrap the filter in a rag before undoing it, keeps spillage to a min.

This. It's common sense really. The sump plug key should cost no more than about £5 from a motor factors.
Then to remove the filter either buy / borrow the proper tool to remove it, or if you're feeling pikey just jab a screwdriver through it and use it to twist the filter off.

Cheers for the replies. I do have the oil filter removal tool, but it won't budge so screwdriver it is then.

it's also the 'bodge-it i cant remove a oil filter properly and like to make a big old mess way'

some times, but most oil filters can be removed by hand if you got some beef on you.

Just buy an oil filter removal tool, its about £5-6
