Oil Coolers

I just destroyed a union on my oil cooler, so need a new one...

How do i know if i need 1/2", 5/8" or 3/4" fittings.

I want to use my original sanwhich plate but new lines and cooler. What part do i need to measure?

Is is internal diameter of the hose? or the threaded part of the fixings? :S

looks 1/2"bsp to me......confirm with a 14TPI count.
