oil down plug bores(16v)

  clio williams, Ph1 172

Anypne had this problem with there 16v?

Every time I take the plugs out they have been in a bath of oil. I do not spill it when the oils topped up so what the hells happening?? Ive heard of this happening to 19 16vs. My car wasnt firing right on one cylinder today it was so deep in oil. Is it a good idea to clean em out every so often??

Usually its the rocker cover gasket(s) need replacing. Doing this on mine this weekend! (theres 2 gaskets)

makes sense. Probably the inner one thats leaking then. Is it a hard job? Will have to wait till I get the cover painted though I guess. Are they expensive??

Cool, not too bad then. Are they hard to change? may as well do both while its off. Paint the rocker cover too. will have to wait a while though cos skint at the moment. am i ok just to keep cleaning out the bores for now?

it looks difficult though. how do you get it away from the cam cover? does it not fit under neath it

Same thing happens on mine, the rocker cover gasket leaks into two of the plug bores....

I wouldnt worry about it, the oil aint gonna do anything just means youll get a bit of smoke out of it for a minute when you take the plug out.. thus letting the oil dribble in.

Im not changing mine... doesnt seem much point

Its a really easy job. The rocker cover fits alongside the cam cover, so you dont have to touch it. Probably an hours job.

cool. Ive asked my dads mate whos a mechanic, he says that you just use some sort of high temp silicon, not a gasket. Its loads better apparently. Gaskets always leak.

Mine had has this for ages. Has caused no problem what so ever.

Benr when i was at yours we both spotted this on my 16v right?

Is replacing the gaskets a simple matter of undoing the bolts and taking the rocker cover off (as well as the spark plug wells)??
